Collective illusions are one of the challenges that Yemen's humanitarian sector faces. It is when the majority assumes that the majority believes in something that they actually do not. I have encountered individuals raise their voices against a couple of actions, even when they privately confirm that such actions should be considered normal. They suppose that most "others" will be unhappy if they express their views, which ends up putting them under social pressure. Fearing social pressure (which is a form of social punishment) leads to the abortion of change, which embeds social illusion in Yemeni social norms. Founder of SmartAID and IsraAID Co Founder of STEMpower and Digital Inclusion Foundation SmartAID bridges the gap between the technology and the humanitarian world
In the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, SmartAID Ukraine team on the ground, particularly in Kharkiv region, is expanding our psychosocial program in the country. This initiative integrates various technologies to support local psychologists and social workers in addressing the needs of tens of thousands of traumatized children and women in the eastern part of the country. Focusing on the mental health needs arising from the war, SmartAID collaborates with local municipalities and towns, notably Kharkiv, to assist children and women near the frontline in coping with the emotional toll of conflict. Utilising different technological tools, our team supports local social workers and psychologists in providing online counseling, maintaining proper documentation of patient history and records, and sharing valuable insights with the regional and national Ministry of Health. The war in Ukraine has generated an immense demand for psychological support, encompassing everything from psychological first aid to comprehensive psychological care. The populace has been subjected to profound experiences of fear, trauma, and isolation, resulting in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. Despite attempts by some to seek refuge in the western parts of the country, ongoing missile strikes continue to jeopardize civilian lives, even far from the frontlines. The pervasive physical threat of these strikes is also inflicting psychological impact on people throughout the entire nation. The urgency for comprehensive mental health support is evident as individuals grapple with the complex repercussions of the conflict. #ukraine #techforgood #humanitarian #tech4good #Pychological #technology #AI #pychology #trauma #children #women #family #ukrainewar #technologytrends #computer #laptops #trending #posttrauma #growth

On the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine, Doctors of the World calls on the international community to support the country's health system, particularly highlighting the mental health needs of the population. More than half of the Ukrainian population has experienced a potentially traumatic event and needs psychological support of varying intensity. Loss of loved ones, illness, displacement, economic hardship are all part of the harsh reality of life in a country at war. A large portion of the population today is experiencing severe levels of anxiety and despair. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, more than 92,000 Ukrainians have received health care from Doctors of the World teams. Over 17,680 received mental health and psychosocial support. In total, Doctors of the World carried out more than 131,900 consultations. We will continue to be there for people #AsLongAsItTakes. In early March, the tranquil ambiance of Kuriga town in Kaduna state was violently disrupted as 137 students found themselves in a harrowing ordeal. What began as a routine morning assembly quickly descended into chaos as the piercing sounds of gunfire echoed across the unfenced school grounds. Panicked and disoriented, the students scattered in every direction, only to realize too late that their escape routes had been cut off. Thus commenced a harrowing 17-day nightmare at the hands of their captors. Though the physical shackles have been removed and the captives have returned to the embrace of their families, the psychological wounds inflicted by this traumatic experience continue to fester. The lingering effects ripple through the survivors' hearts and minds, casting a shadow over their daily lives and leaving an indelible mark on the community at large. Responding to the need for healing and support, the Kaduna State Government, in partnership with UNICEF , embarked on a collaborative effort to address the mental health and psychosocial needs of those affected by the kidnapping. A pivotal training session on psychosocial therapy, facilitated by Neem Foundation and other organizations was convened for key stakeholders in Kuriga community. This gathering provided a vital opportunity for participants to acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to offer compassionate care and support to survivors as they navigate the arduous path to recovery. Moreover, this engagement served as a poignant reminder of the indispensable role that strategic partnerships play in fostering enduring solutions to the multifaceted challenges that afflict our societies. By joining forces and pooling resources, we can harness the collective strength of our communities to confront adversity and pave the way toward a brighter, more resilient future. #kuriga #mentalhealthawareness #survivorstories

As a community 🌍 , how can we mitigate drawbacks associated with Aid? The Continuous reliance on Aid discourages self-sufficiency and hinders long-term development efforts. In an interesting meeting yesterday, Nadait Gebremedhen, MD, shared how we can build regenerative communities with self-reliance and sustainability. We need to design our programs and project models that can develop society's capacity to be innovative. 💡 Share what else we can do in the comment. 👇 #humanitarianaid #aidecisionmaking Catalyst 2030 Mental Health Service Users Association (MHSUA) Impact Ethiopia YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa

The Opinionated Psychologist | I'm a therapist who supports other psychotherapists to heal from systemic harm and do better in the lives and practice. Follow me to decolonize and liberate your mental health practice.
"Non-judgemental positive regard means that psychotherapists/mental health folks don't pick sides" As we inch closer to 100 days of genocide, I invite you to know that when we chose mental health we already "picked a side". When we chose to be trauma-informed, we already "picked a side". When we committed to Do No Harm, we "picked a side". Peace, compassion, loving-kindness, joy, equanimity are human qualities that foster healing, transformation and liberation. When you witness suffering and engage in Right Action, you foster these qualities in yourself and others. So might you side with these qualities? if political divides, community divides confuse you and make the situation "too complex" to comment on, and you freeze into inaction because "I don't want to pick sides", ask yourself "whose mental health is this fostering?" And how sustainable will it be to foster mental health in this way? For now, invitation to one action. Join others to be in solidarity against genocide. Those peoples who experienced a pandemic and experienced a war share trauma, loss and isolation. The lack of availability of mental health services and effective mental health services focusing on trauma, loss and isolation are compounding individuals psychological and and a society's social problems. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while effective for social anxieties is not effective for trauma, loss and isolation. in the Department of Veteran Affairs it is only effective for 50 % of Veterans. Post Traumatic Stress is a lifetime healing journey and requires many 'tools in the healing tool box" to heal. A healing ecosystem of complementary and alternative healing modalities are necessary within a healing environment framework fro an individual to effectively cope, raise a family, hold a job and contribute to society. In Ukraine there is an opportunity to re imagine a mental health / behavioral health system to address the profound mental health challenges of both war and a pandemic. #mentalhealth #healingecosystem #trauma #war #pandemic #healingenvironment
