Here’s why EPC - Efficient Power Conversion and EPC Space made my Top 10 Power Semi Startups to Bet On list… These amazing companies each deserve their own feature but it made sense to tell the story like they’re members of the same family. Alex Lidow had accomplished a lifetime worth of achievements in power semis before becoming a startup founder: The son of Eric Lidow - who founded International Rectifier in 1947 with Alex’s grandfather - Alex seemed destined from an early age to become a semiconductor engineer. In a recent conversation, he shared with me that his dad certainly influenced his career but he still had to work his way up. He started as an R&D Engineer and progressed all the way to the C-Suite, becoming CEO of IR in 1995 and leading the company successfully for twelve years. During that time, IR was named one of America’s best-run companies by Forbes and Alex notched accomplishments like co-inventing the HEXFET power MOSFET and over 20 other patents, many in GaN technology. After being surprisingly ousted by IR, Alex and his former employer litigated and settled out of court. Free from corporate ties, Alex decided the next logical adventure was to found a company based on his decade’s worth of insights about GaN so in 2007, Efficient Power Conversation was born. Their first ten years was characterized by slow and steady progress. GaN was still finding its footing, and GaN-focused companies fought for every socket. Alex recalled many sleepless nights when he worried whether EPC could produce a working prototype before running out of capital, but their focus on quality and efficiency ALWAYS came first. EPC continued building their portfolio of GaN technologies and success started coming. By the late 2010’s, things were looking up for them, literally. They had a proven portfolio of breakthrough GaN devices and a great manufacturing process, and came to the realization that their devices had the potential for radiation-hardened space applications, like those found in Earth orbiting satellites. Alex had already brought his former International Rectifier colleague, Bel Lazar, into EPC to lead their Operations, and Bel’s two decades of experience in aerospace and defense markets made him the perfect fit to lead a spinoff. In 2020, Alex, Bel and their Board decided Bel would become CEO of a new company and EPC Space was born. Both EPC and EPC Space continue building on their legacy of high-quality, ultra-efficient GaN products and serve markets as diverse as space, to data centers and robotics. Alex and Bel both envision a world where GaN replaces silicon and say, “it’s just a matter of time.” I’m very bullish on these two and I believe any engineer who hears about this journey while making their decision to join EPC or EPC Space will know they are aligning with greatness. My advice to Alex, Bel and their Talent teams: Tell this story! #semiconductorindustry #powermanagement #galliumnitride

Free markets are no longer "free". "Invites circulate via group chats, word of mouth and emails marked confidential. Investment vehicles providing access to Elon Musk’s closely held rocket and satellite company have generated hefty demand, and fees for those arranging them. For years, the company’s value has only gone in one direction—up. Hawthorne, Calif.-based SpaceX—which flirted with bankruptcy not long after Musk founded the company more than two decades ago—now dominates the launch business. And it has built its satellite-internet division, Starlink, into an industry and geopolitical force. Current and former employees, venture capitalists and creators of SpaceX investing vehicles have all benefited from the intense investor appetite for the company. Gaining access to SpaceX shares can mean sizable costs. SpaceX also carefully tracks its investor base, and not everyone gets in." #market #investment #venture #capitalism #marketcasino #freemarket

**The Harmonic Oceans of ∅** The void, ∅, can be represented mathematically as the empty set, ∅ = {}. The harmonic oceans of ∅ can be described using the following equation: ∅(x) = ∑[n=1 to ∞] (1/n!) \* (x^n) This equation represents the harmonic series, a fundamental concept in mathematics that describes the sum of an infinite number of terms. The harmonic series is a manifestation of the fractal branches of ¬, the negation operator. **The Soliton Waves of Ø** The null set, Ø, can be represented mathematically as the zero vector, Ø = 0. The soliton wave of Ø can be described using the following equation: Ø(x) = e^(i \* k \* x) This equation represents a wave function, a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics that describes the behavior of particles and waves. The wave function is a manifestation of the soliton wave of Ø, the fundamental frequency of the universe. **The Fractal Branches of ¬** The negation operator, ¬, can be represented mathematically as the complement of a set, ¬A = A^c. The fractal branches of ¬ can be described using the following equation: ¬(x) = 1 - x This equation represents the negation operator, a fundamental concept in logic and set theory. The negation operator is a manifestation of the fractal branches of ¬, the self-similar patterns that repeat at different scales. **The Phonon Vortex of ∇** The del operator, ∇, can be represented mathematically as the gradient operator, ∇ = (∂/∂x, ∂/∂y, ∂/∂z). The phonon vortex of ∇ can be described using the following equation: ∇(x) = ∑[n=1 to ∞] (1/n!) \* (x^n) \* (∂/∂x) This equation represents the gradient operator, a fundamental concept in calculus that describes the rate of change of a function. The gradient operator is a manifestation of the phonon vortex of ∇, the swirling pattern of energy that underlies the harmonic oceans of ∅. **The Unity of ∅ and the Soliton** The unity of ∅ and the soliton can be represented mathematically using the following equation: ∅(x) = Ø(x) \* ¬(x) \* ∇(x) This equation represents the unity of the void, the null set, and the del operator, a fundamental concept in mathematics and physics. The unity of ∅ and the soliton reveals a deeper truth about the nature of reality: that everything is interconnected, and that the harmonic oceans of ∅ are the source of all existence. **The Resonance of One Bit, One Byte, and ∅** The fundamental frequency of information, one bit, one byte, can be represented mathematically using the following equation: 1 bit = 1 byte = ∅(x) \* Ø(x) \* ¬(x) \* ∇(x) This equation represents the fundamental frequency of information, a manifestation of the harmonic oceans of ∅. The resonance of one bit, one byte, and ∅ reveals a deeper truth about the nature of reality: that everything is a manifestation of the harmonic structure of the universe, and that the soliton wave of Ø is the fundamental frequency that governs the behavior of particles and waves.
It's no surprise that #ElonMusk's decision to move SpaceX's headquarters to #Texas has stirred up the #spaceindustry. SpaceX is a major player, and its employees are a valuable asset. Companies are right to see this as an opportunity to attract #toptalent who might not be thrilled about relocating. Attracting SpaceX employees will take more than #perks. Companies need to create a compelling narrative about their unique strengths, whether it's #cuttingedge technology, a #collaborativeculture, or a clear vision for the future of #spaceexploration. For SpaceX, this move is a gamble. While Texas offers certain advantages, like a lower #costofliving and a #businessfriendlyenvironment, there's also the risk of losing valuable employees who don't want to make the move. Musk will need to work hard to retain his talent by offering incentives, fostering a strong #companyculture, and ensuring a smooth transition for those who do choose to #relocate.

I'm sure my home state of Texas would love for SpaceX to increase its investment in jobs and other opportunities in Texas. But I'd be cautious about inferring that such an investment is going to occur simply because of SpaceX's reincorporation in Texas (as announced this week). Musk's decision to switch incorporation for SpaceX from Delaware to Texas is grounded in the Delaware Court of Chancery's decision to nullify Musk's pay package for *Tesla*--but Tesla isn't moving its Delaware incorporation and can't move it without that move's being approved by Tesla shareholders. Will the state-of-incorporation move mean SpaceX will invest in more jobs and facilities in Texas? It's not impossible--Texas has plenty of aerospace talent. But two factors should pre-empt any early rejoicing in Texas about new SpaceX investment. First, SpaceX already homes its testing of launch vehicles, engines, and other systems in McGregor, Texas--and was able to do so even without being incorporated in the state. Second, the state of California, which is where SpaceX designs its launch vehicles and other systems (in the city of Hayworth), *also* has a ton of aerospace talent. California is also home to Vandenberg Air Force Base, one of the launch sites for SpaceX missions. (The company also has a launch site and launch support site at Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, respectively, in Florida.) Given SpaceX's extraordinary success in the earth-to-orbit marketplace and given its current physical plant, it's by no means clear that reincorporation in Texas (and corporate "departure" from Delaware) will mean more investment in Texas than the company has already planned. If there are SpaceX facilities in Delaware, other than the lawyers who have handled SpaceX incorporation-related functions in Wilmington, they're unmentioned on the company's website.
