ARE KIDS GETTING THE BEST POSSIBLE SELF-TALK? Unless a child is growing up in a home where the adults are aware of positive self-talk and how to teach it, the child is going to get programs from parents, friends, teachers, television, video games, etc., with no one standing guard against the onslaught of negative programs that are all around them. If you have kids at home, the solution is obvious. Make sure they’re surrounded with positive self-talk. Practice it, talk about it, notice it, correct it, and reward it. You may not be able to change the programming your child is receiving at school or from friends, but you can override a lot of those often-negative programs by making sure your kids get healthy positive programs at home. As a parent, there may be no more important thing you can do for your kids’ futures than to teach them positive self-talk. The more you use the right kind of selftalk at home, the more they’ll pick it up, and begin to make those same positive messages a part of who they are. There are specially recorded self-talk programs for both younger kids and older kids you can play at home that will help, at selftalkplus.com. (You Can Do It!) Helmstetter, Shad. 365 Days of Positive Self-Talk
