With a couple of mixed-use developments and an acquisition in the SLX pipeline, I'm looking forward to attending this Bisnow conference. Here's what I'm looking forward to learning as I observe the retail landscape in Dallas today: 1. Why has retail become DFW's strongest asset class over the past 3-5 years? 2. How can developers combine design, functionality and consumer trends for future retail? 3. What are some of the newest retail projects that can serve as future inspiration? My personal thoughts on retail and how we'll consume in the future: - Health and fitness is shifting from an option to a necessity in our daily lives. Longevity, bio-hacking and an emphasis on quality of life is also on the rise. - Wellness and holistic living in particular has scope to add value not just for adults but for the upcoming and younger generation as well. - Majority of today's population today places more value on experiences rather than things. - Food quality and service could be sub-par but as long as the restaurant looks aesthetic, customers will keep spending for "higher quality vibes". - Places that offer a "play, eat, drink and socialize" concept will continue to do well. For example, Top Golf in The Colony dominated for a decade. A brand new PopStroke at Grandscape right across TopGolf has captured a different demographic. Both concepts are similar and succeeding. Poppin’ into 2024 with #realness! 🍿🍾 Honouring the good and the bad behind EATABLE INC.’s 2023 highlights reel… ☀️TOP 3 HIGHLIGHTS: 1. Hiring some key team members I knew early on I wanted to invest in surrounding ourselves with the right expertise to fill our gaps. It paid off exponentially by allowing us to pursue big opportunities confidently, and expanded our networks through our team and mentors. 2. Securing over $350k in non-dilutive funding Through e-commerce funding, strategic debt and grants, we secured capital for hiring, facility improvements and to roll out improved packaging and products to set us up for retail success. Our team has demonstrated our “scrappiness” by getting lots done with relatively little while making micro pivots along the way. 3. Landing some AMAZING collaborations We’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with household names that transcend the snacking space. This year, we’ve innovated popcorn for Bacardi, Barefoot Wine and the OSCARS 🤩 with some exciting partnerships in the pipeline for next year. ⛈️TOP 3 LOWLIGHTS: 1. Walking away from a listing opportunity with a huge national retailer The path to profitability is filled with tough decisions and our choice was heartbreaking 💔 because we couldn’t make their desired pricing work with our margin goals. It ended up being a huge wake-up call that gave us valuable insights on how we should create future product lines for mass retail success! The silver lining? We dodged a bullet that could have killed our company if our only motivation was to get a big logo on an investor deck. 2. Having some team members move on (for various reasons both personally and professionally). I take every single one of these tough conversations to heart. I consider my team an extension of my family, but I also understand that #startuplife is not for everyone. I’m grateful to everyone who has been part of Team EATABLE’s journey and wholeheartedly support their next phase! 3. Feeling the impacts of the #hustle on my mental health and well-being Our digital and social circles are usually full of inspiration and motivation, but we all have those days where we fall into comparison, shiny object syndrome, and feel like inadequate versions of ourselves. There have been times I’ve let those bad days manifest themselves in unhealthy ways, impacting my ability to show up at work and at home for my family and 2 little ones. ⚡Flashback Friday to the first-of-its-kind campaign that took the skies by storm✈ The Situation❌: A year after the TCLOV opened, they were killing it as a game-changing lifestyle brand. Every room, restaurant & entertainment venue was consistently at capacity & in demand - but the casino floor was having a different success. Leadership threw a jump ball to the IAT team. The All Terrain team grabbed it & ran with it. Our Insight🔆: 1 in 7 travelers to Vegas make plans after they land in one of the noisiest places on earth. Leading us to a white space in the only place they weren't being heavily marketed to… in flight. The Solution✅: we created a first-of-its-kind campaign with an in-flight gifting program. During beverage service, the flight attendants would ask the passengers if they would like a gift from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. YES, PLEASE, was always the answer! Travelers were given a sleek box containing beautifully designed on-property offers & premiums. Offers varied with some food & beverage, but most were gaming-focused. Seatmates began to trade cards & make plans to visit TCOLV at 30,000 feet. The Results👏: 600,000 gifts were distributed within the first 6 months, coupled with 30,000 new loyalty members joining in the initial 6 weeks of activation. With a remarkable 5% redemption rate, this initiative captured MASSIVE attention & paid for itself in the first 6 months. The campaign was such a success that it was extended for another 2 years, solidifying its place as the best-performing OOH campaign for TCOLV for that time frame. This pisses me off. It’s December 27th and already we’re advertising Easter. Let us finish enjoying one holiday before we start to monetize the next. I don’t know if this is the fault of Co-op or Cadburys Schweppes PLC but what happened to the 12 days of Christmas? Brands need to raise their game and protect the values they push hard in the run up to December 25th.
