In the U.S., 13 million children live in food-insecure homes. For many of these kids, school lunch is their only meal of the day, yet the current funding of $4.43 per meal is simply not enough to provide the nutritious food they need to thrive. That’s why I’m participating in the $5 Boost Campaign—a mission to raise funds for HydroTowers and Independence Gardens' cooking program, Come and EAT IT. These initiatives bring fresh, healthy food directly into schools, empowering students to learn and grow. 💡 Here’s How You Can Help: - Donate just $5 to make a difference in a child’s life. Your contribution will help us reach our goal and ensure that kids have access to the healthy meals they deserve. 📅 If you’re in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, join us on September 14th for our Food Fight event—a chef competition focused on transforming school lunch. Can’t make it in person? No problem! Your $5 donation also gives you access to the virtual event, so you can watch the action live. Let’s come together to fight for a future where no child has to worry about their next meal. This #HungerActionMonth, Dairy West is excited to announce our collaboration with Tackle Hunger to combat food insecurity across the nation. During this crucial month and throughout the year, we are committed to ensuring that essential dairy foods are within everyone’s reach. Milk, cheese and yogurt, while highly demanded, are seldom donated to food charities because they need refrigeration. Through our partnership with Tackle Hunger and their innovative donation map, you can help change this by making monetary donations directly to local food charities. These contributions will provide nutrient-rich dairy to those in dire need. This initiative spans 21 states, where regional dairy councils work tirelessly to ensure that donations reach our communities effectively. This effort not only feeds but also nourishes, supporting everything from children’s growth to adults' health. Jaclyn St. John MS, RDN, LD from Dairy West underscores the urgency: “With 13 million children facing food insecurity in our nation, our partnership with Tackle Hunger is crucial. By donating through the Tackle Hunger Map, you support our local food banks in providing dairy essentials to families in need.” 🔗 Join us in making a difference. Visit the map.tacklehunger.org to support your local food charity and help us make dairy accessible to all. Your involvement can lead to a healthier, more equitable community. #TackleHunger #DairyNourishes #FeedTheChange #AgNews #StrongerInNumbers

🥕🍞 September is Hunger Action Month! 🍞🥕 In the United States, more than 35,000 nonprofit organizations focus on food-related issues. We are honored to work with just a few of those nonprofits who are addressing a wide range of challenges such as: ✔distributing meals to those in need ✔advocating for systemic food policy changes ✔promoting sustainable agriculture, and ✔increasing access to nutritious, affordable groceries in food deserts Some food for thought for fundraising in grassroots food organizations: 🥑 Build upon your in-kind donations - celebrate the donations of food and other non-monetary items you receive; list them in your grant budgets and talk about them in your conversations with donors. 🥞 Tell an asset-based story - focus on the strengths and aspirations of the community you serve, and tell a story of hope and possibility. 🥙 Highlight your extensive partnerships - food-based organizations are often so good at collaborating. Talk about the ways you work with providers focused on housing, health, education, and more – and highlight the collective impact of these partnerships. #Fundraising #HungerActionMonth #FoodJustice #CollectiveImpact

🍲 Food Charity Done Wrong: Are You Actually Helping? 🍲 We all know the importance of food. It’s central to our lives, and when we think of charity, donating food feels like a natural way to give back. But not all food donations are as helpful as they seem. 🚫 Stop Following the Trend 🚫 Have you seen those viral videos of people distributing food on the streets or cutting cakes in front of hungry children? While they might seem heartwarming, these acts can sometimes do more harm than good. Free street handouts can create unhealthy dependencies and encourage begging. And let's not forget about the party leftovers—donating food that’s about to spoil is not the way to make a real difference. ✅ What Can You Do? If you want to make a meaningful impact, consider donating to organizations that cook and serve nutritious meals or provide groceries to community kitchens. This ensures that those in need get balanced, safe food. Whether it’s institutions feeding children, the elderly, or victims of natural disasters, your contribution will go further when it’s done thoughtfully. Remember, food is life. Let’s make sure it’s given with care, not for show. 🙏 #FoodCharity #GiveWithCare #StopStreetDonations #DonateSmart #DoGoodBetter #HelpTheNeedy #FoodForAll #CommunityCare #CharityWithPurpose #GiveBackRight #NoMoreJunkFoodDonations
