The UK’s first fully recyclable crisp (chip) packet has been made possible by the inclusion of biodegradable polymer-based barrier protection from Aquapak. The new paper packet, developed by The British Crisp Co in partnership with flexible packaging manufacturer Evopak, is reliant on Aquapak’s polyvinyl alcohol-based Hydropol technology to provide the essential barrier protection. In addition to Hydropol, a very thin layer of vacuum-deposited aluminium helps to keep the crisps fresh, but it doesn’t impact the recyclability of the packets, Aquapak said. According to its maker, Hydropol can be recycled, re-pulped, and composted, and it is compatible with anaerobic digestion. Biodegradable vs Compostable: What's the Difference? Both decompose into natural materials, but compostable products have specific requirements in terms of decomposition timeframe and circumstances that are validated by a set of standards from organizations like ASTM. LG Chem's certified compostable materials, COMPOSTFUL™, is a bioplastic that decomposes within 6 months to 2 years under specific conditions. It can be compounded with various biodegradable materials such as PBAT, PBS, and PLA. #COMPOSTFUL™ is used for a variety of purposes including Food packaging (produce bags & food wraps), Barrier, Mulch Films, Paper coating, etc. #LGChem #WeConnectScience #Biodegradable #Compostable

Crystallisable PET (cPET) labels are made of the same polymer as the bottle, meaning the bottle and the label are fully recyclable together and there is no need for separation which you can imagine enables easier recycling. It also provides more rPET for the market! There’s tremendous value to be found in this solution so we got together with market leaders and our competitors throughout the supply chain to prove that cPET is the future of shrink sleeve labels. Find out more about the cPET Consortium led by kp in our sustainability report: https://ow.ly/ax9r30sAikH #InvestinginBetter #ClosetheLoop #Recyclability
