Grid flexibility is vital to enabling the energy transition in Europe, and something we at RPC are always looking to contribute to as we grow our footprint. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that our Merkkikallio wind farm is now successfully participating in the Manual Frequency Restoration Reserve (mFRR) down regulation market in Finland – a service dedicated to balancing the Finnish electricity grid. Finland has undergone an exciting and rapid expansion in its clean energy sector, meaning flexibility services that can support grid management are more important than ever. RPC’s participation in the mFRR market will help ensure that renewables effectively play their role in the Finnish energy system of the future, and for us marks a significant milestone in our Nordic portfolio. This important step is testament to the long-term relationships we forge, as RPC and our partner Alpiq work together to optimise Merkkikallio’s operations.

This is an important development - in a decarbonised electricity system, where will balancing services come from if not renewable generators (and batteries)? A great achievement by our Power Markets team - Tomas Tuominen, Agustín Seseña Carrillo & Lucia Fuentes with support from their colleagues in Asset Management & Legal. This ties into something we'll likely touch on at the Renewable Energy Revenues Summit Series tomorrow. How do you set up your PPA to allow this participation? From the offtaker's perspective (assuming a pay-as-produced structure) you're reducing the quantity of GOOs they receive, so they may not be so happy. On the other hand, the price of a downregulation service is likely to be higher in periods of high wind production, which probably means power prices are relatively low, and so from a settlement perspective, perhaps they would rather that you weren't delivering in those hours? Thoughts on a postcard ...

In the energy system, flexibility is not usually associated with renewables. Check out what Mikko Salminen and his team have achieved with wind asset. #flexiblity #renewables #windpower

Ventolines is primarily known because of the A-Z project development and realisation of large windfarms such as Windpark Fryslân and Windplan Groen. . Perhaps less known are our system integration and specifically battery projects. That will probably change quickly as we are currently developing 27 battery projects for 16 unique customers in the Netherlands alone. The total capacity of these batteries exceeds 2GW and individual projects range from 5MW to 500MW 🔋 📈 A number of projects has just reached financial close or is expected to do so this year and will move on to the construction phase next year. Others, such as Energy Storage Westermeerdijk are in the middle of permitting procedures: https://lnkd.in/e39A3RAR Energy storage is desperately needed for a successful energy transition. Through our work on batteries we’re doing our part and help accelerate the transition to a more sustainable energy system. Exploring energy standards across continents. Here’s what I’ve learned from working in Australia, Italy, and beyond. In Australia, the National Energy Productivity Plan aims for a 40% improvement by 2030, focusing on significant energy efficiency and a rapid expansion in renewable energy, with renewables expected to generate 83% of electricity by 2030. Meanwhile, Italy is advancing towards carbon neutrality with a strong push on renewable installations and reducing energy consumption, especially through building energy efficiency, aiming for substantial emissions reductions by 2050. Both nations are adapting quickly to global energy challenges, enhancing both energy security and sustainability. #GlobalStandards #EnergySector #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #GlobalStandards #EnergySector
