🚨 Victory in Colorado: Defeating SB33 🚨 In early 2024, Colorado proposed Senate Bill 33 (SB33), aiming for a 400% property tax hike on short-term rentals (STRs). This bill would have significantly harmed the state's tourism industry and STR owners. Thanks to a robust campaign by the Colorado Lodging and Resort Alliance (CLARA), including economic impact studies, statewide advocacy, and media outreach, SB33 was defeated in its first hearing. Key Takeaways: ➕ Strategic Advocacy: Data-driven and community-focused ➕ Power of Mobilization: Over 150 advocates rallied at the Capitol ➕Media Impact: Extensive local and national coverage The success highlights the power of collective action and strategic communication. For STR advocates everywhere, CLARA’s efforts are a model for effective policy defense. Read now: https://hubs.ly/Q02LVVxf0

🪙 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐰 This week, the General Assembly is back in session, and we are continuing our relentless push to secure long-term, dedicated funding for public transportation. 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧, who are standing with us in this critical fight on behalf of transit systems statewide and the countless individuals who rely on them every day. Last week, we took our urgent message to the steps of the Capitol for a powerful rally organized by TWU Local 234. The event drew an incredible show of support from statewide labor unions, transit advocates, chambers of commerce, and legislative champions from both sides of the aisle. Together, we sent a clear and unified message: the need for comprehensive transportation funding cannot be ignored, and the consequences of inaction will be felt by communities across Pennsylvania. I want to extend a 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗪𝗨 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁 for rallying such a broad coalition. Earlier in the day, I joined Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) CEO Katharine Eagan Kelleman, Rabbittransit Executive Director Richard Farr, and Crawford Area Transportation Authority Executive Director Tim Geibel at a Pennsylvania Senate Transportation Committee hearing to underscore just how vital public transportation is across all 67 counties of the Commonwealth. Public transportation connects employees and customers to businesses, students to schools, and seniors to essential services, but we are facing serious financial challenges that jeopardize the ability of agencies like SEPTA to continue delivering these essential services. I was proud to update the Committee on the significant progress SEPTA has made to improve safety, enhance service, and grow ridership, but it is clear that sustainable funding is key to ensuring our continued success. The recent distribution of an offensive flyer by the Australian Greens at the Fullarton Market in Adelaide is a stark reminder of the party's disregard for family-friendly values. The flyer, emblazoned with the phrase "Unf*** the future," not only uses vulgar language but also sets a troubling precedent for what is considered acceptable in political discourse. It is deeply concerning that the Greens are indifferent to the potential exposure of children to such explicit language. This flyer, reportedly handed out by a Greens representative, demonstrates a shocking lack of consideration for families and the impressionable minds of young children who may come across this material. Family First strongly believes in preserving the sanctity of public spaces and the integrity of political communication. The use of obscene language not only tarnishes the image of the political landscape but also reflects poorly on the values and principles of the party responsible. It is unacceptable that a political party would resort to such coarse tactics to garner attention and support. Moreover, the Greens' flyer perpetuates a pessimistic and fear-mongering narrative, suggesting that the future is irreparably damaged unless drastic measures are taken. This approach not only undermines constructive debate but also instils unnecessary fear and anxiety, particularly among young people. Political parties should focus on offering hopeful and practical solutions rather than resorting to alarmist and inappropriate messaging. It is imperative that the Greens apologise for this lapse in judgment and commit to engaging in respectful and appropriate discourse moving forward. Family First calls on the Greens to ensure their communications are always suitable for children. Political parties have a responsibility to uphold the standards of our society, and the use of foul language is a clear violation of this trust. READ MORE: Go to the Family First Party website.

What does TXCPA PAC do? TXCPA PAC contributes much-needed funds to political candidates and incumbents who understand the importance of a sound Texas economy and the critical role of the CPA in preserving the state’s business climate. Contributions are made year-round—not only during an election cycle—as modern policymakers must continually raise funds to meet campaigning demands. How does the TXCPA PAC work? TXCPA PAC is directed by the TXCPA PAC committee, whose volunteer members are appointed by the TXCPA Chairman. The PAC committee works closely with local chapters and Public Affairs committees to determine which policymakers should receive TXCPA PAC contributions.

Economic Security Project’s Guaranteed Income Now (#GINow) Conference in Detroit wrapped up this evening. Its purpose? To celebrate, strategize, and learn with leaders, advocates, and innovators in the guaranteed basic income and unrestricted cash space. It was incredible to: 💡Be in community with those who hold highly and dearly the belief of the inherent value of an individual and the values of dignity and freedom for all. 💡Think about GBI and unrestricted cash as a model for reparations, given the historical context of racist and oppressive policies that have allowed the cycle of poverty to continue in Black and brown communities. 💡Hear people share their stories as caregivers and child of immigrants, and urge all who will listen to follow the lead of impacted people with lived expertise. 💡Hear charismatic leaders speak authentically and unapologetically about the possibility and power of unrestricted cash. 💡Continue the conversation about the intersection of Reproductive Justice, Cash Assistance, Housing, Health, and more….because it is after all, intersectional. 💡Unexpectedly connect with new and old friends and colleagues alike. 💡Be a visitor in Detroit. I leave this convening with continued inspiration to work towards the goal of unrestricted cash for people to not only live, but to thrive as they want and decide to. See below to learn more about the conference.

We're falling behind other states, and leaving money on the table. 💸 The passing of SB1026 would bring significant economic activity to our state, bolster job creation, attract talent, and enhance our state's tourism industry. Everybody wins—which is why this bill has garnered enthusiastic bipartisan sponsorship. It is URGENT that Wisconsinites lift their voices in support of this important initiative. Tough cuts were made this legislative session, and many programs benefiting our state's children landed on the chopping block 😔. Investing in our children’s future should always be a top priority. As we look ahead to the next session, it's time to rally together and ensure the wellbeing of our kids is no longer short-changed. Their potential must be nurtured, not negotiated. Check out our legislative recap to learn more about what happened (and didn’t happen) for Utah kids this session: https://lnkd.in/gN_9zq73
