It's Fun Facts Friday AirSho Fans! Did you know that the first-ever global 'flying meet' was held in 1909 in Reims, France and dubbed “Great Aviation Week”? While the Wright Brothers weren't in attendance, great aviators like Louis Blériot wowed over 200,000 awestruck spectators. Fast-forward to after World War I, the U.S. government had a surplus of airplanes, such as especially easy to fly trainers like the Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” biplane. Having no use for the aircraft, the government sold them to ex-military pilots and adventurous civilians who traveled the country to perform aerial demonstrations before a paying audience. These “barnstorming” pilots are often considered the first aerial stunt performers. With little regulation, barnstormers pulled off risky moves like loops, barrel rolls, and even flying under bridges or through barns. Stunts like wing walking, parachute jumps, and midair plane swaps were aplenty. One group even played tennis on airplane wings! Today near 12 million Americans attend air shows every year according to the International Council of Air Shows and the Fargo AirSho is proud to be part of those statistics. In Cambodia, young people will often ask me who my idol is. Easy answer: TSB Chair Kathy Fox. From "Raising the bar on safety"-- "Getting clients, passengers, crews, and operators to reject unsafe practices—and to speak up to prevent those practices from happening—will be difficult. Doing so will require strategies, promotion, and education tailored to the sector to change values, attitudes, and behaviours and create a culture where unsafe practices are considered unacceptable. To help with this, the TSB issued four recommendations to Transport Canada and industry aimed at: eliminating the acceptance of unsafe practices; promoting proactive safety management and a culture of operating safely; updating aviation regulations to reduce identified safety gaps; and  tracking data so that mitigation strategies can be better assessed.

Now Adam wants to be first in Europe and US with Advanced Air Mobility concepts like Eve Air Mobility. The future of air travel is constantly evolving.

FACT: Today is National Aviation Day in honor of Orville Wright's birthday. CONTROVERSY: There has been some debate on which state is worthy of the title "First in Flight". For those who call North Carolina home (such as myself) there may be some bias since the title is due to the legendary 12 second flight on Dec. 17, 1903, at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. However, Wilbur and Orville spent most of their lives in Dayton, Ohio, where their outlandish idea of human flight were manifested into reality. It was there where those dreams turned to sweat that brought us to where we are today. QUESTION: I'm curious to hear from those who have a passion for aviation - past, present, and future - What state do you believe is most deserving of the title "First in Flight"? Today many may take these amazing machines for granted thanks to the wild ideas of those Wright Brothers. What also may be taken for granted is the crew members needed to operate these jets safely everyday. Do not settle for having "enough to get by" in your flight department. Sifting through my photo memories, I rediscovered a cherished moment from my flight in an FA-18 Hornet with John O'Halloran at Williamtown Air Force Base. This experience, unbeknownst to me then, marked the last civilian journey in that jet. The preparation for this flight was intense. I delved into the flight manual with the seriousness of a student, mastering every detail. As an aerobatics instructor, I knew the value of preparation, yet nothing could fully prepare me for the freedom and exhilaration awaited. In the cockpit, with the world below, I learned profound lessons about freedom. JOH allowed me to take the controls for most of our hour-long flight, and in those moments, I grasped the true essence of liberation. Flying, I realised, is more than navigating the air; it's a metaphor for life - embracing opportunities, overcoming challenges, and experiencing the thrill of limitless potential. Today, as I reflect on my life after a life-changing accident, this photo is a powerful reminder. It symbolises the boundless freedom and adventure that life offers despite our limitations. Echoing Helen Keller's wisdom, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all," this flight taught me that true freedom lies in seizing life's adventures with courage and an open heart. #aviation #hornet #airforce #femalepilot #flyinginstructor #femaleempowerment #disability #speaker
