There’s nothing I enjoy more than a robust discussion, and yesterday at the FT Mining Summit in London, I had the privilege of joining a panel on the challenges of constructing a new mine. Alongside Mikko Keto from FLSmidth, Michael Wurmser from Norge Mining, and Björn Jonsson from ABB, we delved into the topic: ‘Bridging the strategic and the technical – Lessons learnt and pitfalls to avoid when constructing a new mine’. The session was expertly moderated by Leslie Hook, FT’s Natural Resources Editor. As someone leading Projects & Development, here are a few of my key takeaways: - The local context and relationships are paramount when developing a mine. Trust, knowledge, and honouring commitments should always come first. Never underestimate the value of community goodwill. - Partnerships are crucial. Whether with governments, suppliers, or environmental groups, forging strong partnerships is essential to success. - Cross-sector collaboration and open dialogue are vital. Only by working together and listening can we drive meaningful change. As we continue to develop the #Sakatti mine at Anglo American, I look forward to furthering these conversations and contributing to re-imagining mining to improve lives. #FTMining #ProcessIndustries #Mining

Drilling and blasting are “key functions in opencast mining, directly affecting operational efficiency, products costs, and long-term success,” said Mark Roberts, manager, Global Strategy at #miningtechnology company Maptek, starting off our discussion on #surfacemine blasting practices. Maximus Resources Limited is excited to share the initial results from our recent drilling at the 8500N gold deposit and Paleochannel, located just 25 km from Kambalda, Western Australia. These results confirm significant potential for resource growth, particularly in the shallow paleochannel mineralisation, which provides an attractive low-cost, low-risk production opportunity. Key results include: 13m @ 1.59g/t Au from 11m, including 4m @ 3.49g/t Au from 11m (PCRC003) 1m @ 5.27g/t Au from 115m (EFRC001) The shallow depth and free-digging characteristics of the Paleochannel, combined with the fact that it sits within a granted mining tenement, position us to fast-track the approval process for production. With infrastructure already in place and baseline environmental studies completed, we are well-positioned to move forward swiftly. As we plan the next phase of resource-focused drilling, we look forward to further defining and extending the mineralisation at 8500N, with the goal of adding to our growing gold resources.
