Attending the World Health Organization (WHO) event provided a deep dive into the evolving landscape of diagnostics healthcare access. Engaging with global policymakers including WHO, PEPFAR, and The Global Fund, I connected with leaders tackling some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare today. The discussions were centered around driving equitable access to innovative diagnostic technologies, with a particular focus on cost-efficient and point-of-care solutions that can make a real difference in Africa and low-to-middle-income countries. The commitment from major funders to support impactful initiatives addressing HIV, maternal health, and hepatitis was a standout, highlighting a shared dedication to advancing health equity. The collaborative spirit among diverse stakeholders was evident as we explored sustainable solutions that push the boundaries of healthcare access. Sessions on the latest WHO guidelines reinforced our collective progress and the drive to break down barriers to global health. Budgets with Minister Mark: A Healthy Start to the Day! Last week we were thrilled to attend the Australian Institute of Policy and Science post-budget health briefing with the Honourable Mark Butler down in Canberra – a chance for our industry to gather and engage directly with the decision makers as they walked us through the health budget measures for the next year. Apart from our selfie skills (!) here are some of our highlights and takeaways: • A clear focus on improving quality of life for older Australians – more nurses, more time with carers and improved wages • Cost of living is front of mind – and medicine is a part of that – with a promise of cheaper medicines, more local clinical trials to support access to medicines and increased PBS funding • Community pharmacy promised $3 billion through a new 5-year deal • Improved skin and bowel cancer prevention funding, along with continued progress towards HIV elimination • Women’s health (particularly breast cancer, endometriosis and gynaecological issues) will continue to receive funding as Government aim to reduce bias and barriers We valued the opportunity to also hear from the Honourable Annika Wells as she provided updates on Aged Care and Sport, and answered the keen audience’s questions. In December 2020, Linzor Capital Partners invested in Sies Salud IPS, a Colombia-based healthcare service provider that offers treatment to patients suffering from chronic diseases through a comprehensive care model. With Linzor’s support, Sies Salud expanded its business model to serve a wider range of chronic diseases. The company currently has 24 outpatient healthcare centers across Colombia, alongside a mobile clinic circulating through the national territory to bring health services to underserved areas. In 2021, Sies Salud was named the best HIV healthcare provider by Colombia’s centralized regulatory body and its patients continue to report superior health results compared to national benchmarks. The company has also implemented solar panels in several clinics to reduce its carbon footprint, earned an environmental excellence certification from the Bogotá Environmental Authority and joined the Global Network of Green Hospitals in 2023. Collaboration and partnerships are a top priority for Horizon as we aim to improve health care for all New Brunswickers. A new partnership between Horizon and YouTube will help highlight our team globally as experts in our fields and Horizon as a leading health care organization while also increasing access to trusted health information. Over the coming months, we’ll be creating videos on commonly searched health conditions with the goal of increasing access to information and reducing the spread of misinformation. We’ve already created videos on seven different topics, including HIV/AIDS and COPD. We know receiving a new diagnosis can be scary and stressful. These patient resources will help patients and their loved ones by explaining the condition and its symptoms, as well as treatment and management, and ways to prevent it. Data geek here again! Just about a year ago, HRSA (Health Resources & Services Administration) launched the Health Care and Service Delivery Site Dashboard. What's cool about this is that it provides visualization of data pertaining to the location of sites that deliver services funded by or participating in HRSA related programs. Programs like: 💉 Substance use disorder treatment and recovery sites 💊 Ryan White HIV/AIDS provider sites ⚕ National Health Service Corps sites 👩🏾⚕️ Nurse Corps sites 🖥 Health workforce training sites 👶🏽 Healthy Start sites 🏥 and of course Health Center Program service delivery sites You can look at program sites by state or by county, but even more notably, you can filter by congressional districts to see the programs just in your district! Trust me, that's pretty cool. The dashboard is intended to strengthen and promote innovation, data sharing, accountability, and equity, making health data and information on the meaningful programs HRSA supports more readily available to the public.
