In August, R4D debuted a customizable costing tool designed to support the introduction and scale-up of #multiplemicronutrientsupplementation. 💊🤰🏥 MMS contains 15 essential nutrients — compared to just two in iron folic acid — and there is strong evidence to indicate that MMS is better than IFA at preventing preterm births, low birth weight and stillbirths. 👶🍼🩺 The Excel-based tool, developed in collaboration with kupara consulting and with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, assists stakeholders in estimating the costs of all necessary activities for a successful transition from IFA supplementation to MMS. ⚙️➡️📊 Explore this Q&A to learn about the new tool, its necessity and development, and the impact it could have on #maternalhealth in countries around the world. 📰🔗: https://loom.ly/01sYNds #globalhealth #globaldevelopment #maternity #pregnancy

Excellent panel today on the sidelines of #UNGA on How Countries are Reimagining and Renewing Commitments to Primary Health Care. The all-star speakers emphasized a few key themes: 1) Integrating health services through #PHC is more efficient and effective 2) PHC must be people-centered and based in the community 3) Development partners must align their financial and technical support around country PHC plans - One Plan, One Budget, One M&E framework Speakers also addressed the “how “ - from training frontline health workers, to updating and equipping thousands of primary healthcare facilities, to ensuring access to essential products. This is what creates trust in the system. Hon. Min. Prof Muhammad Ali Pate shared how #Nigeria is working to end “hyper-fragmentation" by bringing Federal govt + state govts + development partners around one clear plan. “This will require behavior change in government and among partners.” Dr. Natalia Kanem, ED of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) shared how family planning delivered through PHC can integrate HIV, mental health and even address gender-based violence. Hon. Min. of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chipond shared how #Malawi has aligned partners to participate in a plan that is patient-centered, not disease centered. Hon. Min. M. Pierre Dimba from Cote D’Ivoire emphasized the need for PHC services that are close to people (e.g. in schools and markets) and noted the potential for telemedicine. Hon. Min. Budi Gunadi Sadikin shared how #Indonesia is equipping more than 10,000 clinics with the technology and equipment required for prevention and promotion….and “digitizing everything.” He thanked Juan Pablo Uribe for The World Bank support to integrate health funds from central budgets, local budgets, national health insurance, and donors. “Decentralizating multiple funding flows is messy!” He also encouraged all of us to engage in healthy behaviors! On a personal note, I had fun seeing so many friends who have been working together for over a decade to support countries who are improving PHC like Asaf Bitton, Beth Tritter, Kristina M. Yarrow and Kelly Saldana. Thanks USAID The Global Financing Facility (GFF) Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) for hosting an excellent event!

Many of us are asking the same question: What is the future of the INGO? 🤔💭 One answer lies in creating better alignment and coordination across the #globaldevelopment sector. At R4D, we see a future where more #INGOs work as “connectors,” helping different parts of the development ecosystem act in concert. 🪢 Our CEO Gina Lagomarsino recently laid out some of the ways we’re trying to fully realize that vision. 💡 We invite your ideas, feedback and partnership in building a stronger ecosystem in support of change agents around the world. ✉️🎬 You’re invited to an exclusive film screening on Wednesday, October 2 at 2 p.m. UK time. Will you join us? GeoSeals is a Frontier Tech Hub pilot testing a tech-enabled solution to prevent stockouts of life-saving malnutrition aid in #Ethiopia, where conflict often prevents visibility of supply levels at remote health points. Since 2019, R4D has been proud to work with Brink and DT Global to deliver the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s vision to test, learn and explore around the role of frontier technologies in solving global critical challenges. Many of the ideas tested through the Frontier Tech Hub have gone on to scale, bringing real world impact to thousands of lives. The GeoSeals pilot project is being tested in close collaboration with Ethiopia's Ministry of Health and local teams from UNICEF and World Food Programme. Their involvement has been critical to understanding the problems faced by health teams on the ground, and to envision a solution which is locally owned and valued by the people who use it. In the film you'll meet some of the local change agents who have made this project possible over the last two years. 🗓️🔗 Sign up here to reserve your free ticket: https://lnkd.in/e96YSH_E Together we’ll explore the inner workings of humanitarian supply chains, and the transformative role technology can play in ensuring availability of critical aid items, like life-saving nutritional supplements for malnourished children.
