🌎Our work shapes the world (and the mess) we live in today. The good news is, if our communications and products can create a mess, they can also fix it!👇 Since that realisation came to me as I was taking the CISL course, I dreamed of a practical tool that helps agencies and freelancers recognize and combat greenwashing. Because let's face it, it's not easy following all the regulations and frameworks... So, my product designer and strategist brain was buzzing with ideas, but I knew it needed more than my enthusiasm. It required the right advisors, educators, writers, lawyers, and resources. Life got busy, but the idea stuck with me. Then, one day, Lucy called. Call it manifestation, or stars aligning, I don’t know... 💫✨ She said they were cooking up an anti-greenwash guide for agencies at Creatives for Climate and asked if I wanted to be involved in designing it. HECK YES! Who better to tackle this than Creatives for Climate who had the best connections and advisors on the topic? I was thrilled to be involved. Fast forward through a whirlwind of hard work, and I’m incredibly proud to announce that the guide is officially launched today! 🎉 It features: 👉 The latest regulatory frameworks 👉 Practical checklists like ‘How Not to Greenwash’ and red flags of clients 👉 Principles to avoid misleading and unsubstantiated claims And it’s interactive! Developed with Dr Victoria Hurth (independent pracademic), Johnny White(climate lawyer), Jellien Roelofs (anti-greenwashing lawyer), and Gill Wilson (IE marketing professor), and curated by Lucy von Sturmer and Ross Findon🦑, the guide aims to help leaders navigate the complex landscape of sustainable marketing to tackle greenwashing. Feeling incredibly lucky to have been part of this project and to have collaborated with such amazing people. It’s more than one dream come true. Special thanks to Lucy for involving me! 💚 So, what are you waiting for? Check it out—the link is in the comments. And if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to enjoy a well-deserved break and sip my tea as I watch it spread. ☕️🥹 #antigreenwashguideforagencies #antigreenwashguide #greenwashing #ethicalagency #creativesforclimate

Hell yeah, I'm posting my Greenwash Watch Certificate! It took a substantial commitment of time to complete, but more importantly, it helped me think deeply about how we can guide our clients to their most authentic and impactful sustainability storytelling. All creative professionals, whether working directly in sustainability or not, should join Creatives for Climate and take this course. No matter what industries we serve, we all need this education so we can ask our clients the tough-but-important questions about any environmental or social messages they're asking us to communicate on their behalf. Just a few things I'll be pondering with our clients and our internal team based on all this: -Should we be thinking of the people we're talking to as "consumers" or as citizens who can be invited to participate in a brand's social and environmental actions? -How can we help clients increase the consistency and frequency of their environmental and social content, so they can show their ongoing commitment to these issues? -What are the most effective ways to help brands communicate hope, and transmit it meaningfully and authentically, in the face of climate change and global inequality? As creatives and marketers, we're uniquely positioned to make a positive impact, not just for the brands we serve, but for the people they serve and the planet we all share. Educating ourselves and knowing what questions to ask is the first step. And it's a step I suspect we'll keep taking over and over, across the span of our careers.

"You can't claim to be eco-warriors while cozying up to Big Oil. That ship has sailed." Our Strategy Lead, Callum Jackson, didn't pull punches in The Drum. But he's spot on. Why should we care? 🏢 Our industry's reputation is on the line. 🌍 Our planet is in crisis. Half-measures won't cut it. 🙅♀️ Accreditation integrity matters. No more grey areas. B Corp certification isn't about looking good or winning clients. It's about actually making a difference. Our stand? 👋 Greenwashing is dead. Good riddance. 👊 Actions > Words. Always. 💪 Tough choices? Make them. Well done to Clean Creatives for such a successful campaign, and thanks to Audrey Kemp for great reporting. Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/ed-n2wxs

An excellent summary of greenwashing and reminder to all of us working within industry to put our sustainability efforts into context when sharing more widely. In my experience I have seen some companies slip into these categories but, in many cases, more by mistake than intent. It tends to occur when trying to balance a sense of excitement from an achievement, made during what may feel like a long journey to sustainability. Some statements also seek to keep folk engaged and secure ongoing support for their work within companies. So let's try not to assume the worst every time an element of greenwashing occurs. Instead, let's work with those individuals trying to affect a positive change within organisations, to achieve greater things!

Greenwashing explored ♻️ 😳 6 types in 1 poem ✍🏽👂🏽 I love to explore poetry. Capturing a feeling in rhyme for helps me to digest, synthesise and story-tell. Thanks Antonio Vizcaya Abdo for the inspiration. START: In the world of green, not all is as it seems, Six shades of deception, beyond our wildest dreams. Green-lighting's the first, a sneaky little trick, Showcasing small wins while the big problems stick. Then comes Green-hushing, oh so shy and meek, Hiding eco-efforts, afraid to take a peek. Green-rinsing's next, a slippery slope indeed, Shifting goals like sand, accountability we need. Green-shifting's the art of passing the buck, "It's all on you, consumer!" - Now that's bad luck. Green-crowding's the fifth, a corporate disguise, Hiding in the herd, pulling the wool over our eyes Last but not least, Green-labelling's in town, Slapping on fake stickers, credibility going down. So next time you see a company paint it green, Remember these six tricks, and what they really mean. END Feel free to share it - f.e.x for a next strategy meeting on "sustainability activities". I even dared to record it - way beyond my normal comfort zone.🫣 Maybe it touches some of you? #circulareconomy #zerowaste #greenwashing

Did you join our #greenwashing webinar? Thanks to Stephen Cain for his insight. B2B communicators watch out! ⚠ Some of the examples showed how seemingly well-written content ✒ can fall into the greenwashing trap. Even technically accurate messages that only a handful of people misinterpreted cost one company dearly. 💰 Here are the webinar slides for reference. https://lnkd.in/ga6rGfg2 We’ll also publish a white paper shortly, so watch this space. Message me if you need help with writing and designing technical marketing materials to promote your sustainability progress while avoiding greenwashing. Copper Consultancy RSK Group
