Should we be performing #dryeye evaluations on all of our #glaucoma patients? The evidence and my clinical experience certainly lean in that direction. Our OD colleagues, Justin Schweitzer, OD, FAAO and Jennifer Gould Blackmore OD MS FAAO, have a nice paper reviewing the connections between glaucoma and dry eye. At a minimum, consider implementing a questionnaire and point-of-care testing like tear osmolarity and mmp-9 testing on your glaucoma patients. #optometrists #optometry #eyecare https://lnkd.in/giAVF2Kw

Did you know the average hospital system can save 8+digits by rethinking how they monitor urine output? Early warning systems are implemented in the hospital for a reason–they provide an opportunity to avoid a condition getting worse Accuryn has been shown to detect acute kidney injury ~34 hours before standard of care, serum creatine. Have you looked into how patient care could improve along with your bottom line if you could reduce costs associated with caring for patients with AKI?

There is no question that anti–VEGF-A therapy has revolutionized care for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) by stabilizing disease and improving visual acuity. In the real world, however, standard-of-care monotherapies approved for wet AMD fall short of providing the outcomes seen in clinical trials. There are several reasons for this gap. Screening Alone Can’t Keep Pace: A study of 1.2k patients with pacemakers found that echo screening identified left ventricular systolic dysfunction in 34% of the patients. However, screening did not significantly reduce HF hospitalizations or death compared to usual care over 31 months (18% vs. 19%, HR 0.89). Better outcomes occurred when LVSD was managed in a HF clinic rather than in primary care, suggesting that both screening and specialist care is needed to improve outcomes. https://lnkd.in/es49aAeX

Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) offers a safe, noninvasive, point-of-care tool for diagnosing and monitoring disease activity in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In a recent publication, a Houston Methodist team of physician scientists provides a practical framework for incorporating IUS into IBD practice in the United States, including training requirements, equipment, and protocols. #ibdawareness #crohnsandcolitis
