We hope you're no stranger to regenerative agriculture (and we hope you aren't either), but have you heard of Integrated Landscape Management (ILM)? Forbes lays out the framework in its latest article: "At its heart, ILM is about strong, locally-led partnerships that generate trust and a shared understanding of natural and socioeconomic processes in the landscape, including agriculture. Building on that foundation, these partnerships can define a long-term transformation strategy and adaptive action plans promoting synergies between public, private, and community projects. ILM is not just a concept; it is a practical, proven approach and set of methods that extend regeneration’s usefulness beyond local farms to entire regions." How will you practice ILM on your farm, community, or garden to grow the regenerative movement? Do you have practical tips to help others? #regenerativeagriculture #agriculture #soilhealth #farming Read it > https://lnkd.in/gcspEym7

What benefits are farmers seeing from adopting regenerative approaches to agriculture? Over the past few months we’ve been listening to six different farmers’ perspectives on the positive impacts of regenerative farming. And we’ve produced a new series of case studies on this topic. The reported benefits are ecological, financial and social. Benefits for soil and landscape health included more diverse grass species, extended growing seasons, better mineral cycling and water infiltration, and more top soil with increased soil carbon. Production benefits included lower running costs and increased productivity between seasons and resilience in extreme weather events. And some of the social and personal benefits included personal growth, new knowledge, self-efficacy, better family connections and a stronger position with customers and buyers. We’re grateful to all of our participating case study farmers for sharing their insights for this project. There is no doubt that the regenerative agriculture movement is growing. With all the momentum comes increased awareness of and dialogue around the ecological, climate, and agronomic benefits of regenerative agriculture. Much less talked about, however, is the economics of regenerative agriculture and this is holding the space back. Here I dig into four reasons we need to talk more about the economics and the role of capital in regenerative agriculture: 🌱 The right economics will drive adoption 🕵🏼♀️ Regenerative agriculture needs to be demystified 🏦 To build a new approach to food, we also need a new approach to finance 🚀 We need more capital flowing to regenerative agriculture and food systems Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gXuCAT2X #investment #farming #agriculture #regenerativeagriculture #farmfinance #foodsystems

Conservation is something anybody can do no matter where you live or do. It is our diversity, dedication, and respect for the natural world that ensure our is planet healthy for future generations to enjoy.
A community's economy becomes resilient and sustainable around regenerative farmers. A core component of regenerative agriculture is working with the crop on its level. That means different crops serve two-three purposes/functions for resilience. Take cattails for example. As a perennial it is planted one time and once it is established different parts can be harvested throughout the year. The new shoots are edible and many eat them in salad. The flowers are akin to corn on the cob- boil and add butter. Someone may decide to purchase the flour made from the rootstalks of the cattail and sell it at the local farmer's market etc. Others may make beautiful baskets from the leaves. That's 4 different products from one plant! Cattails are also powerful filters in Riparian ecosystems, paving the way for other more sensitive perennials and herbs that can be used. Meanwhile soil quality increases, new little habitats are formed, and while initially there may be an inbalance it will even out. Overall the ecological capital will increase and while this is happening, new jobs are becoming possible because of one plant.

Zachary Ducheneaux at the USDA Farm Service Agency highlights the importance of “a sustainable return on a long term investment” in agriculture. #Regenerativeagriculture is not only a financial investment, but a holistic one as well. The benefits that regenerative agriculture has on the environment, soil health, and farm longevity are undeniable. We’ll be learning more about the comprehensive advantages of regenerative systems at the State of Regenerative Agriculture (SORA) in September! Apply for SORA: whyregenerative.com #RegenerativeNYC
