Intriguing story on how #artificialintelligence – “augmented intelligence”– can best serve as a tool to help doctors make the correct diagnosis and find the right treatment for #patients, rather than replace their own judgments. Combining doctors and AI to reduce diagnostic errors is a clear possibility and benefit when AI is implemented efficiently and is ultimately human-oriented, both in terms of patients and providers. This would mean more high-value interactions for patients with providers than low-value interactions. Today, I'll discuss the crucial role of caution in developing and deploying modern AI applications in healthcare at the AI for Business event at Frank G. Zarb School of Business. On one hand, AI can transform healthcare accessibility by reducing wait times, assisting doctors in capturing patient histories and understanding complex conditions more accurately and quickly, relieving nurses and doctors of menial tasks to focus on patient care, accelerating drug and vaccination discovery, and effectively combating future pandemics. On the other hand, these systems can undermine our civil liberties, exacerbate social and systemic biases, and violate trust. I'll explore some developments that illustrate both impacts.
