So Ireland is AT BEST going to be 40% behind our legally binding target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% in 2030. (We may hit 29%) And yet... Our Taoiseach is reassuring farmers that there is no need to reduce the national herd. A Fianna Fáil MEP is telling farmers to "resist calls to cull their cows". (Nobody, not even in his governing party is saying that scaremongering codology). Power stations burning fracked LPG are asking for permanent connections to Data centres. The ban on single use plastics has been kicked so far down the road that it is out of sight and mind. I am not a member of the Green party, but it genuinely seems to me that every single political party and independent politician except the Greens, is pretending that everything is grand, to help win elections. We had a waterspout in Cork last week, Mogeely flooded again. Rush is slipping into the sea and farmers are only just getting crops into the ground now after 10 months of rain. Oh and aeroplanes are hitting turbulence that is unprecedented. We need leadership, we need honesty and we ALL need to change more, not just ask farmers to do more. Do you know what drop in GHG is required from your particular industry? The film "Don't look up" is no longer a parody, It's Ireland and her leaders. #don'tlookup #climatechange #climateemergency
