Thanks, GMA Network, Inc. and Becky Worley! This morning Zūm and CEO Ritu Narayan were featured in a segment about how, in partnership with Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), we’re launching the nation’s first 100% electrified school bus fleet. Our 74 electric, bi-directionally charging buses will offer students cleaner, greener rides, all while returning power back to Oakland’s grid. It was a powerful conversation about modernizing and decarbonizing the old yellow school bus, and setting an example for the rest of the nation. Our bus fleet in Oakland will provide quieter, safer, cleaner, and greener rides to the students of OUSD, all while supporting Oakland’s power grid and setting an example for the rest of the nation. The future of student transportation is here. See the full segment here: https://lnkd.in/gdd27zND #evs #studenttransportation #Oakland

California, New York and Illinois are the top three states for total electric school buses, according to new report released today by U.S. PIRG Education Fund and Environment America Research & Policy Center. The three states also lead the nation in combined federal and state investments into electric bus fleets. According to the World Resources Institute, the United States now has 12,000 electric school buses, either in operation or coming soon, in more than 1,500 school districts. Beyond California, New York and Illinois, other top states include Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia and Georgia. A recently published study in the JAMA, school districts replacing the oldest buses had greater improvements in educational standardized test scores than districts not awarded funding. The EPA’s School Bus Rebate Program, which began in 2012, provides funding to replace older diesel-powered school buses with new diesel, alternate fuel, hybrid, or electric school buses. The contention of the study was that students riding older school buses are often exposed to high levels of diesel exhaust as a result of emissions infiltrating the bus through leaky cabins or entering the bus directly through open windows or doors. Did you know that each school day, more than 20 million children in the United States ride in nearly half a million diesel-burning school buses, breathing in toxic exhaust that harms their health and cognitive development? 🔋 Take a look at the NEW Policy Playbook from Alliance for Transportation Electrification (ATE) and WRI Electric School Bus Initiative WRI as it's a game-changer for state lawmakers, regulators, agencies, utilities, and advocates to equitably electrify their state’s school bus fleet. https://lnkd.in/gpJpy5mV Zūm #electrification #students #equity #sustainability

Accelera by Cummins #electricbuses #reliability #reliabilitycenteredmaintenance …”Cost Savings (Start of operations in 2020) West Grand experienced significant fuel and maintenance savings with the electric bus. During the first year of operation, average charging costs for the electric bus were 26 cents per mile, versus diesel bus fuel costs of 58 cents per mile, which saved the district an estimated 44.8% or $3,633. During that same time, the electric bus required about $104 in maintenance costs, while its diesel counterpart cost about $1,900.”…
Spoiler alert: The answer is yes. The West Grand School District 1-JT (WGSD) in Kremmling, Colorado, added its first electric school bus to its fleet in March 2020. With a bus route elevation of over 9,000 feet and average morning temperatures between -33 and -18 degrees Fahrenheit, the electric bus had some high expectations to live up to. And in its few years of operation, here's what WGSD learned: ❄ The electric school bus handled the weather, road conditions and elevation better than its diesel counterpart. 🛠 Overall cost of operation and maintenance were significantly lower. 💚 They wish they bought two electric buses instead of one! #AccelerateTheShift #electricbuses #schoolbus 📰 Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/gvz4ughf

Every child deserves a safe, clean, and healthy ride to school. When a child rides a propane-fueled school bus to school, they arrive healthier, safer, and better prepared to learn. Propane is a low-carbon, near-zero alternative energy source. Propane powered school buses produce up to 96% less toxic emissions than diesel buses. And because propane produces 43% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than grid-generated electricity, it even has a lower carbon intensity than electric buses. All without sacrificing range, reliability, or performance. With lower cost of ownership, lower acquisition costs, and lower infrastructure costs, propane school buses also help school districts meet operational needs while remaining on budget. Who can do that? Propane can do that! Go to propane.com to learn more. #cleanschoolbus
Who Doesn't Love a Propane-Fueled Yellow School Bus? Not only do they offer a clean, quiet ride for every child, but they're a cost-effective solution for school districts. While electric buses are clean and quiet, their high costs can be a burden on school district budgets, leaving less money for educating our children. Propane buses, on the other hand, offer many of the same environmental benefits as electric buses but at a fraction of the cost. They travel farther, refuel more quickly, and have a smaller carbon footprint. This makes them a great option for urban school districts AND rural Alabama school districts with longer routes. Propane school buses provide transportation directors with immediate opportunities to meet operational needs while remaining on budget. > Lower total cost of ownership > Lower acquisition cost > Lower infrastructure cost > Cleaner performance > Proven technology > Incentive programs Scalable, affordable, and available, propane autogas is helping school transportation budgets go further. Go to propane.com to learn more about propane school buses and how they can help your school district provide a cleaner, safer, and more cost-effective ride for children in your community. #schoolbus #transportationdirectors #propaneautogas #c3h8 #energyforeveryone #propanebus #cleanfuels #lowemissions #schoolbusfleet #PERC Propane Education & Research Council Blue Bird Corporation

Earlier this month, our we found out that The Arts Based School in Winston-Salem was awarded $345K from the EPA's Clean School Bus Program to purchase an electric school bus. This new program is building a nationwide fleet of electric school buses through a ground-breaking investment of $5 billion to replace existing school buses with zero-emission and clean school buses. So, what's all the fuss about and why is the EPA investing so much money in this? We're glad you asked 🚌 🌍 Electric school buses generate zero tailpipe pollution, allowing students drivers, and the community to be less exposed to harmful diesel emissions. Also, the buses will have reduced maintenance cost and a quiet, clean operation. There's even a potential for fleets to partner with local utilities to feed power back into the grid when buses are not in use and electricity demand is high! Parents and community members: Do you want to see an electric school bus at your local school? #winstonsalem #electricschoolbus #cleanschoolbus

Electric Savings Orange Unified School District strategically leveraged state and federal funding opportunities to acquire electric buses at a reduced cost. The district now saves even more in operating costs, estimating it spends approximately 22 cents per mile to charge the electric buses compared to over a dollar per mile for diesel buses. These savings, along with reduced maintenance needs made electric school buses an economical choice for the district: https://hubs.ly/Q02S-Yyw0 Interested in funding opportunities available now?
