Climate communicators can now access a new tool to help them communicate more effectively about climate change. In mitigating and adapting to climate change, effective communication is as crucial as scientific research. The innovative Climate Change Concept Association Tool (CCCAT), developed through the Royal Meteorological Society’s education programme, is available to explore for free at https://lnkd.in/eGzpTmtM. #climateeducation #curriculum

The findings presented in this report are relevant to energy literacy. Energy topics should be integrated into both science and social science curricula. Understanding the social context is as crucial as scientific literacy for young people to make informed decisions about climate change mitigation and the future of their communities.
The integration of climate change topics in school curricula is low. While science classes cover more climate content, social studies lag behind. This means students learn the science, but not the societal impacts or how to take climate action. The GEM Report by UNESCO unearths a challenge that the education sector has i.e. difficulty to integrate climate change learning in the classroom. This is mainly due to educational systems' difficulty to preempt societal needs.. In today's rapidly changing world, educational systems need to evolve to better prepare students for active citizenship continuously. The key is agility. Are our current approaches sufficient? Is agility reflected in Curriculum Flexibility, Teacher Training, Personalised Learning, Real-World Connections and Community Engagement? Our systems needs to equip students to be active and informed citizens. Let's ensure we're not just teaching the traditional academics but more importantly, we should be nurturing the skills and values necessary for the present and future. #Education #AgileLearning #FutureSkills #ActiveCitizenship

📣 #SaveTheDate | "Attribution of extreme events to climate change" 🌐 CLINT - Climate Intelligence Webinar 📅 21 March 2024 | 11:00 CET 🎙️ Speaker: David Barriopedro Cepero – Scientist at IGEO (CSIC-UCM) 🎙️ Moderator: Carmen Alvarez Castro – CMCC Attribution of extreme events quantifies the influence of climate change on a particular extreme event. In this talk, we briefly describe some of the approaches employed for attribution and illustrate them using the European 2022 heatwave as an example. We also present the research and developments that are being carried out within the CLINT project to support the attribution of single events and observed trends to man-made climate change. They include efforts to improve classical methodologies, develop hybrid approaches and explore novel methods for fast attribution of EE. ➡️ Info and registration: https://ow.ly/qFAN50QLpcJ

See you in the workshop!
Interested in learning how climate change and its impacts—from sustained droughts to severe flooding to more intense storms—drives the displacement of people and communities? Join me and the National Academies on March 18 and 19 for a workshop exploring how an Earth systems science approach could be used to address climate change impacts and their influence on human migration. With climate change showing more and more potential to displace people temporarily and permanently, it’s more important than ever to use and understand the tools we have available to us. New paper! For a Pluralism of Climate Modelling Strategies, published in Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS), with colleagues Marina Baldissera Pacchetti and Julie Jebeile. We argue that high-resolution GCMs are not the only game in town and that multiple modelling strategies are needed, with differing methodological aims, to fulfil the diverse information requirements of many different sectors in planning for and adapting to the changing climate.
