The best part of my job is getting to know the companies we work with. Sometimes when we are REALLY lucky, getting to “know” them involves a Pickleball tournament. If you’ve read my posts, you’ve probably seen me praising Lancaster County. This week we got spend time with Merv King and the team at Beuta. Another Lancaster gem. Getting to work with companies like Beuta is what I love most about my job. They are a talented team with a vision. And they are growing crazy fast! If you like board rooms, bureaucracy, big egos, strong opinions, and slow decision making, then you probably won’t think they are very much. If you like seeing Amish family members working together manufacturing products they believe in. And you like seeing offices with kids art plastered over every inch of wall space. And a tangible excitement about growth and what the future holds. Then like me, you’ll probably think they are totally awesome.

Matching quality companies (who employ great people) with digital services that grow their businesses.
Update: It's the last day of the competitive clothing drive. At the end of last week, our team (the Spoons) was falling behind and had dropped to the second spot. We gave each other a rallying pep talk, shared some words of encouragement and WOW check out that Monday/Tuesday pile of clothes around the Spoons table (far right, light blue). I love the teamwork mentality we have at Blue Compass. We all pitch in and work together toward our shared vision (which in this case is most definitely winning). In fact, this whole clothing drive is possible because of our team mentality. Any given year we have 8-12 crews that people can sign up for if they are interested in helping plan and organize events, holidays, etc. It gives everyone the chance to dedicate a little extra time to their favorite things, and build camaraderie with their peers who share common interests. The clothing drive was put on by our fabulous "Moral Compass" crew, formerly known as the volunteer crew. Would you be surprised if I told you that they have three creatives on their team?

What Do You Do to Make Work Fun? Our Thorn Baker Industrial Recruitment team believe that a little fun goes a long way in boosting team spirit and performance. That’s why they're spicing things up with a classic game of Snakes and Ladders! 🐍 Each of our branches have their own customised board... and a fluffy dice (naturally!) and can land on special squares for coffee, beer, or breakfast rewards! The first team to reach the end of the board wins! 🏆 So, what do you do to make work fun? Share your ideas with us! #teambuilding #workfun #snakesandladders #thisisthornbaker

Good times trading ideas and book recommendations with my colleague Azfar Andhi from HR and Zane Rizvi, MBA from Indirect plus all my favorite stakeholders (who listened to me babble/bore them about procurement) at True Value Company while we took a quick break from our #hardwareheros #truevalue #indirectbuyseverything
The entire True Value Company has put in an incredible amount of hard work so far this year, so today we took a break to enjoy a Chicago Dogs game ⚾️🌭 While the whole marketing crew isn’t pictured, I consider myself lucky on a daily basis to collaborate with these amazing people! Big thanks to the meetings and events team for organizing this.

LIFE UPDATE AND STORY TIME - New haircut, new collar, new career! (lol jk) 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐦𝐩 𝐁𝐨𝐢𝐥. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫. This post has been a long time coming. Many people have asked me about Swamp Boil, why we closed the restaurant, and what I’m doing now. So, here it is from top to bottom! (Long Post) My family and I started the Swamp Boil project in 2018. We have owned The Square Plaza where Swamp Boil, BC Boba Tea & Ice Cream, and Luxury Nails & Spa reside since 2013. My mom’s nail salon was the first business to exist in the plaza, and every time we would go to Orlando to pick up supplies for her salon, we would stop by King Cajun, a Vietnamese-cajun seafood boil restaurant. We would get cases of their sauced-up crawfish boils. I’m talking 20lbs at a time. Sometimes, our family members would even go down to Orlando just to get these boils. We had vacancies in The Square Plaza and we were always brainstorming what to put in there. At home, we were trying to make something similar to King Cajun’s seafood boil sauce and eventually, we got pretty successful! Our home cooking was already loved by our friends and family too. So, we started bouncing around the idea of starting a Vietnamese-Cajun restaurant in our plaza vacancy. The concept had never existed in Gainesville, and it was perfect for game days, graduations, events, and other celebrations. It sounded like a perfect fit! This is where it all gets real. In 2018, my family approached me to build and run the restaurant. I was reluctant. I did not want to start and run a restaurant. At the time, I was doing residential real estate, building Onesixone Ventures, and active in various startups and the entrepreneurial community. My personal “why” in life is: to help people feel Love and connection through created experiences. Thinking on this opportunity to practice my “why” and using it as a powerful learning and growing opportunity for my business and life experiences, I eventually accepted the position. This photo doesn’t do the last few days justice. Conferences(Assemble Holidays would be a more appropriate name) often seem to come at a time when you don’t want to be away from your desk etc. BUT wowee was it great to let the hair down over the last few days, get to know people from our sister businesses better and to get the “good oil” from some of the best in the business about what’s helped them be successful in business and to build successful businesses. The common denominators were the importance of hiring good people, with shared values, who will add to an already great culture, be kind and to provide opportunity. Look forward to the next one.
This week the team at Assemble had the opportunity to escape to Waiheke Island for a couple of days to celebrate our achievements from 2023. During our time on the island, we not only enjoyed the company of our two sister companies BrightSpark.io & CoLegal, but we also took the chance to strengthen our bond as a team. Amidst the beautiful wineries and having some fun on the jet skis, we also made sure to carve out moments for reflection on the past year's accomplishments, share ideas around how we can better service the industries we recruit for and to prepare ourselves for the year ahead. It’s been a great opportunity to recharge, reconnect, and realign our focus as a team. We return eager to tackle another big year ahead in recruitment! Remember those 🎉 Spirit Week 🎉 pep rallies? Let's bring that same energy into the workplace! As L&D professionals, part of our job is to orchestrate experiences that bridge generational gaps and get employees feeling like teammates. If you're looking to shake things up, consider hosting a Spirit Week for your employees, and schedule a variety of events throughout the week. Here are some of our ideas to get you started. Leave a comment to add to the list! ⬇️ 1. Head to a local 🗝️ escape room 🗝️ to encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and communication. 2. Conduct an interactive 🤝 team building workshop 🤝 focused on enhancing a specific skill such as conflict resolution or leadership. 3. Plan an 👟 outdoor adventure 👟 such as hiking, zip-lining, or a ropes course to build trust and camaraderie. 4. Arrange to participate in a 🌎 community service project 🌎 to inspire a sense of shared purpose. 5. Host a 🥘 cooking class 🥘 to foster teamwork and creativity while also encouraging casual conversation and connection. 6. Organize a ❓ trivia night ❓ to rustle up some friendly competition. 7. Schedule a 🎨 creative workshop 🎨 such as painting or pottery to help employees get to know each other on a different level. #TeamBonding #TogetherWeWin #success #learninganddevelopment
