I'm unsure how I feel about being asked to play for Orrell Rugby Union Football Club (ORUFC) Vet's team when I've not turned 30 yet. However, after nearly 25 years at the club, I can see why I was added to the group. Training with the group has taught me a few things: 🏉 Experience always wins - this group's number of rugby hours is well into its 1000s. They think their way around the pitch, working smarter and not harder. 🏉 Trusting the process - they know what works and what doesn't. 🏉 Rugby players come in all shapes and sizes, and so do their specialisms. Some props may think they are stand-offs, and some wingers might think they are forwards, but in the proper role, they are priceless. 🏉 These guys are absolute legends of the game, not just for Orrell Rugby Union Football Club (ORUFC) but for the sport. How does this convert into what we do at Slingshot Digital? ⚡ Experience is our data, the first number we encounter. Putting in the years pays off. When you get our services and results, you're not paying for our time in a month; you're getting the years of experience we have put in. ⚡ We trust the process - it might take time, but the result is excellent. ⚡ Specialisms - we get the right person to do the right job for you. Drop me a line if you want to know more about our #DigitalMarketing offerings.

Fans show their Super Rugby super powers! NZR+ has launched two Play Predictor games to elevate both the DHL Super Rugby Pacific and Sky Super Rugby Aupiki competitions for rugby fans. The Play Predictors give fans an “always on” second screen experience, whereby they can watch the live action unfold on the field and use the NZR+ app to track how their predictions perform. There are $250NZD All Blacks Shop vouchers up for grabs weekly, as well as bragging rights amongst friends and colleagues 🏉 The Play Predictors are also a way to showcase our Super Rugby competitions to a global audience, giving the clubs, the players and their fans an additional platform of exposure. The Play Predictors are free to play for anyone with an NZR+ account. One of our first winners, Matt, was excited to get shopping at the All Blacks shop. "I've never owned an All Blacks jersey, so that will definitely be on the list," he shared. "I'd also better grab something for the kids too!" NZR+ provides highlights and rapid recaps for every Super Rugby match, so fans can see exactly how they earned points once the round is complete. We’ve been proud to collaborate with the teams at Endeavor and LiveLike to bring Play Predictor to life. These Play Predictors are only Phase 1 in our gamification roadmap, and we are looking forward to launching more exciting fan experiences when the international series starts in July. Give the Play Predictors a try this weekend and see how your powers of prediction rank against rugby fans all over the world: Super Rugby Aupiki: https://lnkd.in/gR8PFed9 Super Rugby Pacific: https://lnkd.in/gH5pEvvu To win the prizes, you must be 18+ and be a resident of NZ, Aus, UK or Fiji. Rugby is FINALLY getting Mic'd-Up! Rugby is making moves to become more appealing to the fans by getting players mic'd-up during games. This is an effort to bring the fans closer to the action. In January Steven Luatua was the first player in the Gallagher Premiership (England) to be Mic'd-up, while 2 weeks ago Damian Mckenzie & Luke Jacobson were Mic'd-up for Round 1 of Super Rugby (See attached video). How is this more appealing? - Gives fans a deeper understanding of how a team plays - Allows player personalities to shine through and give a refreshing break from the monotonous media-trained answers they usually give. - An extra form of entertainment. The Chiefs (New Zealand) are said to be using the Mic'd-up recordings to create a behind-the-scenes documentary. this will add a layer of authenticity where we as fans can understand what the players go through on a deeper level. Why has it taken so long? I'm sure we've all seen the NFL Mic'd-up clips and how they always have gems of players talking on the field or on the sidelines. it's a form of entertainment all on its own! So why is rugby so late to the party? (Genuine question, I'd like to know more on the matter) NFL have Mic'd-up players since 1967, while F1 has Mic'd-up their drivers regularly since 2006. Rugby players have been mic'd-up before but those never caught on for some reason. In 2015 Fox Sports Australia Mic'd-Up Christian Lealiafano in a Super Rugby match and posted it on YouTube, the video garnered 346K views and 1.5K likes. The market clearly exists. Why it wasn't explored further I don't know 🤷♂️ Luckily a semi-pro/amateur player noticed this gap in the market and has been posting Mic'd up + POV camera angle rugby videos since 2014. Rugby Expo on Youtube. He's amassed 3.5M total views with this type of content! (You should check his content out, way ahead of his time!) https://lnkd.in/eKFt8wj2 Is it that there's a lack of innovation in World Rugby or no one wants to push the envelope? Would love to engage with someone who knows more about the topic. At least they seem to be doing something about it now. Hopefully, audiences around the world can start enjoying a new fan experience in rugby for the first time in a long time! https://lnkd.in/de4yRZCn #rugby #sports #sportsmarketing #sportsbiz

We have just done a sweep of our website womensrugbydata.com and ensured it's up to date for all matches played in the Premiership Women's Rugby this season (Results and Scorers) and for England's 2nd Tier of Women's Rugby, the Championship 1 North & South. We added all the rsults for the inaugural WXV comp, too. The RFU uses their GMS system to collate Results and Scorers for Tier 2 and this relies on Clubs submitting their Data accurately ... which doesn't always happen. Our website is a Pro Bono, Vanity Project on behalf of Women's Rugby - so people can find out more about their favourite Players, their Clubs & their International appearances, too. All the stuff I used to love when I was a kid (Stattooooo). The website aims to put Players at the centre of it all, with every player having their own Bio page, where they can add their own Bios, Sponsor links and even showreels. Every Team (Club and National) has their own page, too. If you love Women's Rugby and you love stats, - check it out. In 2024 we're hoping to get some more support from the Players & Clubs, to get the Bio pages looking better, with more (up to date & persoanlised) information. We've vehemently stayed away from adding advertising & those horrible pop-ups, but would always be happy to talk to any company/brand that might want to sponsor the site or any section of it. #womensrugy #rugby #stats #webdevelopment

The new Men's Professional Game Partnership (MPGP), announced today, is a watershed moment for English rugby, for a number of reasons. 🌹 Most notably: 1) It is the first time that the Rugby Players Association has been a signatory to the agreement governing the professional game, recognising the essential role that players have in shaping the future of the sport. 🏉 2) It includes a landmark joint marketing agreement, which should facilitate a more coherent commercial strategy for selling the professional game, which is desperately needed. 📈 There are many other positive talking points in the new deal but, as ever, the proof will be in the pudding. 🍰 However, it is not clear that this amounts to the full "relaunch" of the Premiership that was promised following the demise of Worcester and Wasps. In particular, significant questions remain over promotion/relegation and the status of the Championship. 🤔 The Minimum Standards Criteria have been adapted to make it easier for Championship clubs to get promoted (if they can win a two-legged play-off) but, as the full RFU press release states, "there is currently a major gap in competitiveness and playing budgets between the Gallagher Premiership and Championship clubs and the financial requirements needed to compete in the Premiership". Yet, strikingly, the new MPGP does not appear to tackle this fundamental problem (which results from the lack of funding and commercialisation of the second tier) and the Championship clubs are excluded from the MPGP. It is disappointing that the opportunity has been missed to remedy this chronic issue, which will, no doubt, continue to plague the competition. What do you make of today's announcement? Let me know in the comments. ⬇ #sportslaw #sportbiz #EnglandRugby #rugby #sport https://lnkd.in/gz-Tc_fU

During the 2023 Rugby World Cup, I stumbled upon a clip (https://lnkd.in/gk9ZJ2_u) featuring rugby coach Warren Gatland. In it, he extols the virtue of being 'the best at everything that requires no talent' in the rugby game. This includes getting-off the ground quickly, chasing the kick, and getting back on defence - all of which only require effort, not talent. Listening to him made me think that by being the best at these tasks, all of us have the makings of a world-class rugby player. This is even if the flashier rugby skills of (say) side-steps and offloads are beyond us. This made me think of how a good piece of oral advocacy is similarly built on the back of being 'the best at everything that requires no talent'. Whether it is in rolling up our sleeves to draw-up a chronology of events, writing out a question tree for cross-examination, or in researching the legal test that the client's claim must meet. If we take the effort to carry out these tasks, all of us have the makings of a good advocate. This is even if the silkier advocacy skills of (say) having a quick wit for a good come-back is beyond us.

THE FUTURE FOR SCOTTISH RUGBY 🏴 A very interesting read and insight into Scottish Rugby’s plans for the next 10 years. A few ‘highlights’ of the pathway include; 👉the return of the Scotland A team 👉the scrapping of the super series 👉’Expanded Academies’ 👉New professional game agreement 👉A better relationship between the ‘domestic and professional’ game And many more. Take a look for yourself. 👉bit.ly/48ivl7d We would be interested to hear what people’s thoughts are. Would you change anything? Is there something they have missed? Is the ‘scrapping’ of the super series the correct choice? #Scotland #scottishrugby #Scotlandrugby #grassroots #pathway #rugby #Future #strategy #strategyplanning #strategyexecution #planningforsuccess #planningahead
