A one-stop shop for Sports Streaming? 📺 This week ESPN, Fox Corporation and Warner Bros. Discovery announced they will join forces to create a yet to be named Sports streaming platform. Sports streaming has become increasingly fragmented with rights sitting across a number of service platforms. This has driven up the monthly costs for consumers who want to watch it all. 🏈 A one-stop streaming solution is an interesting proposition to combat this issue. The service will include broadcasts from at least 15 different networks covering the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Hockey League (NHL), Golf, Tennis and The FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States. Pricing for the new platform has not yet been released but it will almost certainly provide a more cost effective way for consumers to access sports. And unsurprisingly it doesn’t include cable networks which could pose a significant risk to those providers. With a launch expected in Autumn it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. #livesports #streaming #sportsnews

The future of TV might look a lot like the past. With the inclusion of live sports, ad supported tiers, and FAST (free ad supported TV options) "Streaming TV" will begin to look more and more like traditional Cable TV...it'll like a mostly on-demand-ish no cable box version of Cable TV, but served through internet. HBO (Max) has been airing live sports (boxing) for years, and now has an ad supported tier. Apple TV has dipped into an MLS partnership with the arrival of Messi to the league, and some below-average baseball match ups to test it out. Apple TV added an ad supported tier late last year. 'Hulu has live sports' -- most people know this line. They've had an ad supported tier for a while. Amazon owns Thursday Night Football, and just offered a non ad supported tier for $2.99 per month. Netflix added an ad supported tier and live WWE airings. Ads are a part of TV life, and time is a flat circle.

At first glance, the three-year deal between Netflix and the National Football League (NFL) might not seem significant as it only includes two exclusive streaming matches. This December 25, Netflix will be the exclusive global destination for the NFL’s two Christmas Day marquee games: the Super Bowl LVII-winning Chiefs vs. the Steelers and the Ravens vs. the Texans. In subsequent years, it will stream at least one holiday game each year. It doesn’t seem much on the face of it, so why is this a big deal? There are several reasons. More here for subscribers 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/evhKsqkD Overall, it is intriguing and significant. All eyes are now on the NBA, whose current media rights deal ends next year. The NBA seems keen to include a streaming partner in any future deal, suggesting further shifts in the sports broadcasting landscape as current co-incumbent Warner Bros. Discovery might lose out. This would be another significant moment as Warner’s Turner Sports has carried National Basketball Association (NBA) games for nearly 40 years. #SportsMarketing #SportsBusiness #Partnerships #SportsBiz #SportsTechnology #SportsTech #sportsmarketing #SportsIndustry #Sponsorship #brandengagement #brand #livestreaming #NFL

As per Netflix, Christmas Day National Football League (NFL) games will be played on the streamer. The major streamer’s aggressive move into LIVE sports, specifically the NFL, is incredibly encouraging. Despite the NFL's massive audience, which drew 97 out of the top 100 US broadcasts of 2023, the NFL audience is only monetized by its broadcasters five months out of the year. X League, positioned as America's No.1 sport's entry into Women's Sports and already drawing NFL audiences across its digital and social platforms, will become the perfect complimentary sports media IP leading into each NFL season to further monetize the built-in NFL audience that sits dormant for the remainder of the year. #football #linear #streaming #global #viewership #nfl #xleague #herturn

The NFL's playoff game on Peacock was controversial but there's no doubt it was a success for Peacock. It was the biggest live-streamed event in U.S. history and drove 2.8 million new sign-ups to Peacock. This trend is not going away as the WWE and Netflix announced Netflix will be the exclusive new home of "Raw" starting in 2025. This multi-year deal is reportedly worth up to $5 billion. Live sports rights are going to continue to be a key for streaming platforms success. This is a major opportunity for sports leagues and teams as sports rights bidding wars will continue to increase. https://lnkd.in/enGBaPAX #LinkedInSports

📺 Netflix to stream some National Football League (NFL) games 🏈 For three years, #Netflix has secured the rights to stream #ChristmasDay NFL games. This marks the streaming platform's first foray into professional football and its most significant step into live sports. Netflix will broadcast two games on the holiday this year and at least one matchup in both 2025 and 2026, as per the National Football League's announcement on Wednesday. The deal will enable Netflix to display advertisements, including those integrated into live sporting events, to all its customers, not just subscribers to its ad-supported plan. Netflix reported a 700% surge in subscribers to the tier, reaching 40 million, compared to a year ago. Additionally, the company mentioned launching its in-house ad tech platform to improve sales management. This #NFL deal further solidifies Netflix's presence in live sports following its acquisition of rights to "Raw" from World Wrestling Entertainment. #nfl #streaming #streamingwars #business #finance #news
