Kooth Digital Health (North America) took part in the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, September 19th, addressing the global crisis of youth mental health and well-being. The Science Summit at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) introduced the innovative concept of 'Brain Capital,' championed by Dr. Harris Eyre MD PhD of The Baker Institute. This concept places a premium on cognitive skills and abilities to achieve socio-economic objectives. Session One: Youth Mental Health - The Challenge of the Generation - There's hardly a family worldwide that hasn't felt the impact of the mental health crisis. A significant rise in depression and anxiety among adolescents has been particularly noticeable. It's often not just a matter of prevalence but also a crisis in the quality of care and access to it. This session issued a call to action for investment in the mental health of the younger generation. Panelists included experts from the California Department of Health Care Services, Google, the Kansas City Chiefs, the The School District of Philadelphia, Camsie, and Geisinger. Session Two: Public-Private Partnership for Youth Mental Health - Policy and Approaches to Improve Access and Outcomes - This dynamic session transcended traditional boundaries, bringing together legislative expertise and private sector innovation to drive change in youth mental health support systems. By examining real-world examples, attendees left with fresh insights and actionable takeaways to contribute to the enhancement of youth mental health on a global scale. At Annecy Behavioral Science Lab, we're passionate advocates for the profound impact of social connection on public health. It's not just about relationships; it's about fostering resilience, reducing stress, and enhancing overall well-being. There is, however, a discussion to be had whether social connection should be part of a national health strategy or not and our recent experience with France Biotech served as a reminder of the diverse perspectives surrounding this crucial issue. While we initially found alignment with certain members of the network, our journey took an unexpected turn. We are sharing this experience with our network for two reasons: First and foremost, to discuss whether social connection indeed merits a position in national health strategies (or not), and second, to explain why we have suddenly been thrown out of their network. We initially found common ground with a few of their members, who shared our vision for a healthier, more connected society. We called their administrators to discuss whether the work we do is part of their strategy. We then followed a formal selection procedure which we passed, after which France Biotech – and we – announced that we were part of their network. It was encouraging to see recognition of the vital role of social connection for public health within such important circles. Recently, they were going to announce our participation in their network to their members through a lengthy summary we had prepared. Upon publication date, France Biotech decided that social connection and health should not be part of their network. It's disheartening when alignment on fundamental values doesn't translate into action. Despite assurances from key stakeholders, a few of their members decided  that our inclusion wasn't in line with certain protocols. We respect their decision, even as it prompts reflection on the inclusivity of organizational statutes and the accuracy of administrative procedures. Mistakes happen. The more important question arises however: Should social connection be a cornerstone of public health initiatives and investment into health tech? We believe the answer is a resounding yes. As we navigate the complexities of today's world, fostering meaningful connections isn't just a nicety; it's a necessity for public health. We're proud to champion this cause and we will keep fighting to make social connection part of the (inter)national discussion. Together, we can build a healthier, more connected future.

When you start building a business in healthcare, it's easy to get lost in the complexity of regulations, reimbursement models, provider adaptation challenges, etc., and forget how personal healthcare is for many providers and community members who are working to deliver care. Last week, I had a chance to listen to community members, a school counselor, and healthcare team members who are hard at work supporting youth mental health in Maine. I was moved by their commitment, emotion, and dedication to supporting our youth in their day-to-day challenges in this hyper-isolated environment. Also, our idea for "They're for Me" reminded me how new innovations in the mental health area shouldn't be ground-breaking; actually, they should be quite the opposite. They should be a rejuvenation of some old approaches, such as having meaningful connections with your trusted circle in a new format that matches this new digital era, augmented with a data-driven approach, and supported by an innovative business model that aligns all parties' interests. And yes, the check was big, and of course, our winning team ( Allyson Goida, Emily Morrow) was awesome. The ultimate goal is to improve patient outcomes in neuro related conditions and diseases. At the recent Future Of Mental Healthcare symposium, I had the opportunity to learn about Greenspace Health and connect with its amazing team members, Jesse Lee Hayman and Simon Weisz. As #socialentreprenuers we tackle some of the biggest challenges facing #society head on, the ones that our #policymakers deem "too complex and difficult" to solve. A perfect example is #socialcare. As innovators in the #healthyageing space, we thrive in collaborative eco-systems that invest, embrace and are prepared to adopt evidence-based #socialinnovations at scale. The UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge was a great example of creating such an environment. The 242 projects funded by Innovate UK has created a new wave of novel innovations codesigned in partnership with their audiences. At Golf in Society we played our part by #reimagining #golfclubs as #healthhubs, where #olderadults had the #opportunity to access #healthprofessional support, #enjoy #greenspaces, keep active and #socialise with like minded people. The infographic highlights some of the key outcomes from our latest research-led innovation.
