Imagine this: if everyone who went out for a meal added just £1 to their bill for charity, how much could be raised in a single day? The numbers would be shocking. And that’s exactly the idea behind StreetSmart – a brilliant initiative turning dining out into a way to help tackle homelessness and poverty. Here’s how it works: participating restaurants, pubs, and bars add £1 to your bill (or more if you’d like) during November and December. That small addition can create a huge impact. Thanks to StreetSmart’s partner, LandAid, 100% of your donation goes directly to those who need it, with all admin costs covered. Last year alone, StreetSmart raised over £1 million. The funds were used for everything from emergency shelters and counselling services to training programs that help people get into work. It’s proof that small gestures really can lead to big changes. In Manchester, these fantastic venues are already on board: - Climat, Manchester City Centre - Tampopo, Albert Square & Corn Exchange - Banyan, Corn Exchange & Spinningfields - Manahatta & BOX, Deansgate - Bottega by San Carlo, Exchange Square - 20 Stories, Spinningfields - Street Urchin & Mana, Ancoats - The Lead Station, Chorlton - Tariff and Dale, Northern Quarter - Stretford Canteen, Stretford - Restaurant Orme, Urmston The list is great, but there’s room for more. If you know a restaurant, pub, or bar that might be interested in joining, encourage them to get involved. It’s a great way to give back during the festive season. And next time you’re dining out, keep an eye out for the StreetSmart sign. Share a post or story to shout out the venue and remind others to do the same. One pound may not feel like much, but together, it can make a huge difference. Let’s spread the word and make this a festive season to remember for all the right reasons. Could your business consider adding a ‘round up for charity’ option to help raise money for your local Hospice like Calido? By adding the option at checkout you can effortlessly contribute to Strathcarron's vital work. Every penny you choose to round up will go directly to supporting our mission of providing essential care to individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses. One of our charity partners Calido has raised £2280.30 since they implemented the option at checkout (customer donations plus their match funding). John Farrell at Calido – who also sponsor Strathcarron’s Light Up a Life Appeal - said: “We decided to support Strathcarron Hospice as the amazing and compassionate work they do for the community really resonates with us, and we wanted to be part of that positive impact. “Setting up the "Round Up for Charity" feature on our WooCommerce website platform was pretty straightforward. There is a round up for charity app that does it for you if your website is on WooCommerce like ours is. “Since implementing it, we've been thrilled to see donations pouring in from all over the country, which we proudly match to double the support. “It's easy for other businesses to implement this feature as most major ecommerce platforms like WooCommerce and Shopify now have a ‘round up for charity’ type app, and we'd be more than happy to share our experience and offer guidance to anyone interested to help Strathcarron.” Interested in finding out more about how you can support us? ➡️ https://buff.ly/40Q2aIn #charity #corpporategiving #community #fundraising #hospice #strathcarron

And a kicker is that someone else's kid almost definitely won't come spit on your dessert. 🤣 We have expanded ia lot in 2024 and are now in thirty plus cities already - but we're also ready to scale to the next order of magnitude next year, so if we're not in your city yet - you could be the one to make it happen easily and make life changing residual income for doing so (if win-win-win-win isn't a thing yet, we're happy to coin the phrase. 🎥 VC @kindnessvids IG #charitablegiving #feelgoodbusinesses #supportmainstreet #Dining for Charities #DFC #nonprofits #communities #strongertogether @

At Reuse Network, many of our ad-hoc commercial partnerships involve spending an increased amount of time working with third parties and negotiating the demands of their clients. My favourite example of this is; "We do not want the items to be sold in the charity shops, the items need to go to those who REALLY need them" When I ask the reasons for not being able to sell donations, I come across the following objections; "They want to protect their brand" Resolution: Our charity members sign a de-branding to absolve the company of any potential returns. "We don't want the charity to profit from the donation" Resolution: All charities have bills to pay just like a limited company so the INCOME goes towards petrol, staff wages, keeping the lights on, local welfare fund customers etc. "If someone can afford to pay for it, they don't need it" Resolution: So many people are living in "working poverty" and do not meet the criteria for extra support. Reuse charities allow working people access quality, pre loved items so their funds can go towards other essentials like food and bills. I love when our resolutions are heard by our contacts and we are able to move forward with a collection. Whilst we understand wariness within the private sector, at Reuse Network we have a number of processes in place to absolve any concerns before the collection takes place. We love working with organisations that really want to do good and stand by that ethos. If you would like to understand more about our essential sector, please contact me at hannah.jordan@reuse-network.org.uk #reusenetwork #reuse #charitysector #costoflivingcrisis

T H I N K S M A L L 24—28 June is the UK’s biggest celebration of small charities. It’s a chance for small charities just like us to raise awareness of the essential role we play in our communities and to celebrate the incredible donors and volunteers that make our work possible. Nottingham has a fantastic network of small charities; supporting our residents and their families it so many ways. It's hard to imagine a world without these charities who provide so much practical and emotional support to people of all ages. Unfortunately we have seen some doors close recently due to a significant reduction in available funding coupled with rising costs but also rising demand. Its vital to keep raising the profile of our work and highlighting our impact to secure our future. Small Charity Week is an annual campaign to celebrate and support the value that small charities add to communities. Small charities make up 96% of the voluntary sector in the UK and hold many communities together – providing food, safety, shelter, mental health support, and financial assistance and advice. This year the campaign seeks to highlight the transformative role that small charities can play in partnership with government to strengthen local communities. 🚀 The Story of Charity Fleet Alliance 🚀 Over the years at Charity Fleetcare, we’ve seen firsthand how the fleet challenges faced by charities are truly unique. Unlike the commercial sector, charities have so many moving parts — caring for donors, helping those in need, managing retail shops, supporting volunteers, and working with internal stakeholders like trustees. Every fleet decision counts to keep collections and deliveries running smoothly, so charities can focus on their core mission. ✨ That’s why we launched the Charity Fleet Alliance! Our goal is to bring together our network of fleet experts and connect with charities to provide support. Whether it’s attending events, hosting webinars, or leading speaking sessions, we’ve discovered that charities are an incredibly supportive and inspiring community. Sharing ideas and best practices is just in their nature, and that’s what makes this sector so special. The Alliance isn’t just about resources and fleet solutions; it’s a place for charities to connect, share tips, and get access to exclusive offers. And the best part? It’s completely FREE AND SIMPLE to join. We’re proud of this initiative, and we hope it brings real benefits to charities across the UK. 💚 Ready to join the community? DID YOU KNOW?... Five reasons why local government is important to charities 1️⃣ Unlike central government, which is focused on national issues, local government is focused on delivering change at the level of local communities – where the majority of charities operate. 2️⃣ Local government is responsible for a range of frontline services that link to the work of charities, such as social care, education and housing. 3️⃣ Charities often deliver these services in partnership with or on behalf of local government. 4️⃣ Policymakers in local government can find innovative solutions to problems using the insight and experience of charities. 5️⃣ Strong local leadership can inspire residents to support and volunteer for charities.
