This is good news and will help the industry. MRC accreditation for Nielsen’s panel/first party data combo bodes well for bringing transparency back to media measurement. Like water flowing downhill, data wants to merge to strengthen; you could in fact argue it’s inevitable that these big data sets will combine and become more transparent. I’m frankly tired of hearing how every new show from walled garden streamers is a hit based off internal uncontexted data. Bring back transparency, let the hits rise and the duds fall away. Nielsen has always led in this space and having some measurement competition now is healthy. I’m optimistic we’ll get back to a more transparent media marketplace.
