I understand the use of automated/AI application software, and I even agree that they are useful tools for overworked HR managers. But I've encountered problems and frustrations that make me wish a real human were looking at my resumè. Among the issues I've encountered with automated/AI application systems, the inaccurate reading of the resumè is a common complaint among job seekers. We spend extra time going through the uploaded document to fix errors like dates and job titles. Sometimes entire descriptions go missing and need replacing. Another issue I've personally encountered is how the software interprets the information on the resumè. For example, gaps in employment look like job hopping to software which can flag an applicant as sketchy, whereas a human can ask about those breaks and determine the truth without assumptions. Terminology is another area that creates issues for candidates. For example, the software may be programmed to look for "research writing" but the resumè might say "case study" or "white paper" which might be missed inane AI scan. For me, these kinds of issues seem to be keeping me from connecting with potential employers, so I've revised my resumè to try and accommodate some of these issues. I'm reaching out to the job poster where it's okay to do so and following up with a note. It's interesting that in this age of AI, what we really need is a more human touch.

Great article (long read) from earlier this year about AI in the HR and Talent Acquisition process. It's interesting to watch the development as there are tools that stack rank, tools that engage, tools that make decisions all the way up to scheduling for interviews or orientations. Depending on how some companies are investing in and developing their own backends, really determines the length that AI is being utilized, and so differently by so many organizations.....while there are those that are not using any updated forms of AI...or any AI at all. In a new and growing space, everyone is having a different experience, be it from the TA side, the candidate side or the company side. The one constant, is that there isn't one person that knows definitively everything about the adaptation of AI, where corporations are and are not utilizing either an existing form or the development of something more proprietary. In an ever changing and growing space, it's important to keep an open mind, listen to learn and prepare to adapt. Change is always difficult, especially technology changes where you only know what you know, what you've seen and what you've experienced....and to learn from listening to others. #learning #leadership #changemanagement #AI
