For many centuries, based on the priceless natural wonders and abundant resources it encapsulated, the Moon has been an object of interest to humanity and, as a result, various lunar missions have been undertaken and are being planned to unravel the mysteries abound on the Moon.
Various government space agencies and private space companies are investing in technologies that will help humanity push forward the Moon exploration. The commencement of the lunar exploration is dated back to the 1950s.
Luna 1, the first spacecraft to fly by the Moon, was launched in 1959 followed by the Luna 9 which achieved the first soft landing in 1966. Afterward, various lunar landers and orbiters missions have been developed and launched to the Moon.
For many years, efforts are been made to develop lunar gas stations in lunar orbit or on the lunar surface. This is to aid deep space exploration. Research findings show that refueling near the moon would allow for humans to get to Mars much more efficiently than launching from Earth with all the resources onboard.
Various companies are planning, researching, and investing in the establishment of lunar fueling stations. The lunar fueling stations are to be used for refueling spacecraft and to support people that will be living in space within the next 30 years. Examples of lunar space gas station companies are Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Cislune, Shackleton Energy Company, The Moon Express, and a host of others.

Designing orbital maneuvers for space exploration.
In this paper, we present a new technique to transfer a spacecraft (e.g. from the Earth to the Moon) and perform gravity assist maneuvers (e.g. a swing-by with the Moon) to increase its speed to visit other bodies in the Solar System. The technique is based on the Theory of Functional Connections.
