🌐 How can we know what's true online? 🎮
Rotary member Anahita Dalmia of the Rotary Club of Newport Beach, USA is helping young people answer this question through a video game.
She developed a game, Agents of Influence, to help 11-to-13-year-olds cultivate media literacy, thinking critically about content they encounter online.
“We’re teaching kids to understand media bias, logical fallacies, and confirmation bias. We teach things like reading closely; tools you can use to determine what to trust online,” says Dalmia, the founder and CEO of game developer Alterea, Inc.

Happy Friday!🌟 Empowering Students Through Guilds: Fostering Involvement and Integration! 🤝
Guilds offer a unique way to bring students together around common interests, whether it's academics, arts, tech, or social causes. By working together, students not only sharpen their leadership and teamwork skills, but also create a stronger sense of belonging and integration within their school environment.
Why is this important? 🧐
- Involvement: Guilds provide an accessible, supportive space for students to get involved, exchange ideas, and take on meaningful projects.
-Integration: They bridge gaps between different groups, helping students connect with peers from diverse backgrounds and academic paths.
-Community Impact: Guilds encourage peer learning and mentorship, making the entire student body stronger as they grow together.
🎯 Let's empower students to lead, collaborate, and create positive change. By supporting these guilds, we can build more inclusive, engaged, and dynamic learning communities! 🌱

I love/want to create fun and educational products for kids.
Not many people know this, but before I made video games featuring decapitations of cyber monsters in Sairento VR and netherworld creatures in Hellsweeper VR, I conceptualized and co-led the development of a virtual world for kids back in 2007.
Truth be told, I have always been passionate about creating educational products for children.
As a bit of a rebel in school, especially in Singapore, where academic achievement was taken too seriously, I often felt that learning was dry and could be presented in a more entertaining way to enhance knowledge retention.
So, when John Bittleston approached me for ideas on how to best present his IP featuring two water rats traveling the world, I eagerly proposed the concept of building a virtual world for kids.
This led to the creation of The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks - a virtual world where young children are immersed in a story-driven environment. They are not simply logging in to play a game or chat; they are actively participating in a narrative.
Immersive learning forms the backbone of The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks Virtual World:
- The virtual world features famous landmarks, historical figures, inventions, culture, nature, and wildlife.
- Vital knowledge is presented in creative ways that attract and motivate kids to learn as they play.
- From global warming to forest preservation and the protection of marine life and endangered animals, our virtual world helps children understand the environmental challenges our planet faces.
- Children experience different cultures and make friends with peers from diverse backgrounds around the world.
- We recognized the urgent need for creativity among the young to address pressing issues over the next fifty years, including climate change, overpopulation, globalization, wealth imbalance, competition from AI and robotics, and the evolving relevance of the money system.
Somewhere In 2009, we launched the virtual world to 10,000 kids and parents from across the globe, mostly through Twitter, SEO and word of mouth. We grew to 500,000 players over the next few months and received accolades from Disney Family Fun, Parent's Choice Awards and Mom's Choice Awards. However, the timing was unfortunate as we faced financial difficulties due to the global financial crisis, ultimately leading to the site's shutdown.
I subsequently shifted my focus to building software and game development businesses.
Today, I remain deeply passionate about creating fun and educational products for kids. I would love to get involved again in building and marketing a product I believe in should the opportunity present itself.
Below is a video trailer of the virtual world we built.

You've heard about the "DRF Mafia".
Want a little taste of what we're up to Dorm Room Fund? Scope our summer programming at DRF-- and a **sneaky** early drop of our student investment partner application. 👀
Applications for our 2024 Summer Tracks are open! Using my somm skills here-- these pair nicely with a summer internship or full time building (not instead of). https://lnkd.in/eze6RKn6
This year, we're bringing back the hits:
🦾 Women’s Investor Track (WIT): A 6-week investor training program for students who identify as women.
💸 Women’s Founder Track (WFT): An 8-week curriculum for builders who identify as women.
💎 Blueprint Investor Track (BIT): Also spanning 6 weeks, this investor track is crafted for students who identify as Black, Latine, or Indigenous.
🌈 PRISM: A 6-week journey into investment for students who identify as LGBTQIA+.
🤓 PhD Track: Specifically designed for PhD students who are building companies and want a leg up with commercialization.
These programs have three key pillars: a weekly speaker series (past speakers include Union Square Ventures' Rebecca Kaden, Floodgate's Ann Miura-Ko, OpenAI's Sam Altman…need we say more), a 1to1 mentor match, and a like-minded cohort of other students on the journey with you. And the cherry on top: you get to know the DRF Fam before fall recruitment kicks off in August. You can read more about them here. https://lnkd.in/eDfYXxxq
Interested in DRF but can’t swing this summer? Apps for the investment partnership are open early. https://lnkd.in/enceku5c 👈
Last thing - if you’re an investor friend who wants to give back and help shape the next generation of investors and founders, please shout; we’d love to have you speak or be a mentor for one of our Summer Tracks. Caroline Toch can send you in the right direction.
