More than half of surveyed young farmers met the criteria for depression, and 71 percent showed signs of generalized anxiety disorder, a 2018 study found. The Rotary Club of Iowa Great Lakes (Spirit Lake) is working to support and destigmatize farmer's mental health struggles. When farmers delivered harvests to local cooperatives in Dickinson County, Iowa, in 2022, many left with something unexpected: a goody bag provided by a local Rotary club, each bag contained goodies and a small card that read: “Work in Agriculture Can be Stressful. It’s Okay to Ask for Help.” On the other side was a QR code to access a list of local mental health resources. 👨🌾 Farmers are finding support tailored to the stresses of rural life. 🔗 Read more in our latest collaboration with Reasons to be Cheerful: on.rotary.org/3Tnm21l

🌊 What an epic day at the Rotary Regatta 2024! 🚣♀️ Not only did we have a blast rowing, eating and building amazing friendships, but we also raised 10k CHF for Rotary’s WASH projects. Big shoutout to everyone who joined, sponsored and participated 🙌🏻 A huge thank you to FOCUSWATER and Lokales Wasser 37 AG for helping us make this event possible. Communities in need of clean water and sanitation 💧 The specific project we are supporting is located in Masindi, a district located in mid-western part of Uganda 216 km from the capital Kampala. 🌐 How can we know what's true online? 🎮 Rotary member Anahita Dalmia of the Rotary Club of Newport Beach, USA is helping young people answer this question through a video game. She developed a game, Agents of Influence, to help 11-to-13-year-olds cultivate media literacy, thinking critically about content they encounter online. “We’re teaching kids to understand media bias, logical fallacies, and confirmation bias. We teach things like reading closely; tools you can use to determine what to trust online,” says Dalmia, the founder and CEO of game developer Alterea, Inc. 🔗Rotary members help cultivate media literacy: on.rotary.org/4dS8EdK #InternationalLiteracyDay

Sophie Bamwoyeraki’s love for education began as a child, when she would read to other children in her neighborhood. When she became president of the Rotary Club of Kasangati in 2016, she knew she wanted to enhance education in Makukuba. Now, as a school principal and Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation, Sophie’s commitment to literacy continues to inspire change. She starts Interact clubs wherever she works, providing children with hands-on learning and a brighter future📚

In 2020, as the world faced the challenges of a global pandemic, Sarah Garrette was looking for a way to stay grounded while making a difference. A simple Facebook search led her to the Rotary Club of Springboro, Ohio. What began as a quest for connection quickly turned into meaningful involvement.
