More than half of surveyed young farmers met the criteria for depression, and 71 percent showed signs of generalized anxiety disorder, a 2018 study found. The Rotary Club of Iowa Great Lakes (Spirit Lake) is working to support and destigmatize farmer's mental health struggles. When farmers delivered harvests to local cooperatives in Dickinson County, Iowa, in 2022, many left with something unexpected: a goody bag provided by a local Rotary club, each bag contained goodies and a small card that read: “Work in Agriculture Can be Stressful. It’s Okay to Ask for Help.” On the other side was a QR code to access a list of local mental health resources. 👨🌾 Farmers are finding support tailored to the stresses of rural life. 🔗 Read more in our latest collaboration with Reasons to be Cheerful: on.rotary.org/3Tnm21l

🌐 How can we know what's true online? 🎮 Rotary member Anahita Dalmia of the Rotary Club of Newport Beach, USA is helping young people answer this question through a video game. She developed a game, Agents of Influence, to help 11-to-13-year-olds cultivate media literacy, thinking critically about content they encounter online. “We’re teaching kids to understand media bias, logical fallacies, and confirmation bias. We teach things like reading closely; tools you can use to determine what to trust online,” says Dalmia, the founder and CEO of game developer Alterea, Inc. 🔗Rotary members help cultivate media literacy: on.rotary.org/4dS8EdK #InternationalLiteracyDay
