It’s tsuyu season which translates to rainy season in Japan! 🌧️ The season usually starts sooner from late May to early June in the southern Japanese region, while the northern region experiences it later as it travels north through mid-July. ⛈️ The tsuyu season doesn’t always indicate daily showers, as it can range from heavy storms to days without a single drop. ☁️ There are advantages and disadvantages to traveling to Japan during the rainy season. On one hand, even if it doesn’t rain daily, the humidity would persist which could be uncomfortable, though the temperatures would still be cooler. 🌀 Still, there is no guarantee a heavy storm won’t fall during your visit. On the other hand, travel activity would be lower, allowing better experiences at popular, crowded tourist attractions. The exact dates can vary slightly each year due to the Earth’s elliptical orbit & axial tilt. 🟡 While locals are accustomed to this excess of light, visitors often report feeling jetlagged & experiencing sleep disturbances - their circadian rhythms confused by the long days. 🟠 Many local Norwegians relish the endless sunlight & the energy boost they get from the Midnight Sun. 🔴 In the spirit of ‘𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐟𝐭𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐯’’ (the quintessentially Norwegian love of the outdoors), they fill their days with outdoor activities, using the season to deepen their connection to nature. By the third day, you start realizing how insignificant you are as a human being vs the power of the mountain and nature. 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯 𝗲𝗽.𝟱 We climbed 6 hours to 4,200 meters, lunched with the clouds, and then walked down another 3 hours to 3,900 meters to acclimatize at Baranco camp. This was to help us adjust to the high altitude. After 3500 meters, the landscape morphs into rock and sparse vegetation; weather swinging from scorching sun to snow in just half an hour. Despite the constant mix of oxygen (20%) and nitrogen (80%) up to 10km high, the real challenge at the summit isn't oxygen scarcity but the thinning air pressure. At the peak, every breath carries less oxygen into your lungs, making it tough to breathe as if you're only getting half the air you would at sea level. Also, being up high makes you lose water faster, risking dehydration, so you must drink even if you don't feel thirsty. Weirdly, you burn more calories but feel less hungry, so you've got to make yourself eat enough to keep your energy up. Day three was challenging for everyone, but some had it rough -  nausea, headaches, weakness. You can only know how the high altitude will impact you once you are in high altitude. And it has nothing to do with being fit or not, young or old. That night's dinner was not fun - almost everyone didn't feel hungry and wanted to go to bed fast. #kilimanjaro #endurance #resiliance

WInter(thermal) arrived here very early this year, 20 October. And autumn(thermal) was only 18 days, starting very late, 2 October. The thermal season is defined by the average daily temperature.The change of the season is monitored with the help of the heat sum, usually for about 10 days, so a single warm day in winter does not make summer. The thermal season changes when the average daily temperature exceeds the defined limit value. It's not a general, international definition, because the climate is different in different regions, and the temperature limits used in Finland cannot describe the seasons of, for example, Southern and Central Europe. In Sweden, however, the same definition is used. THERMAL SEASONS IN FINLAND Winter - the average daily temperature is below 0 °C. - on average from 110 days (South) to 190 days (North) Spring - the average daily temperature is above 0 °C, but below +10 °C - the shortest on average, spring lasts less than two months (often shorter) Summer - the average daily temperature is above +10 °C. - The longest in southern and southwestern Finland, more than 130 days, and is indeed the longest season in the archipelago and in places on the southwestern and southern coasts. - The shortest is in Northwest Lapland, where its length is usually around 60 days or less. Autumn - The average daily temperature in autumn is below +10 °C and above 0 °C. - lasts about two months, slight variations in both directions

Today is Mountain Day in Japan. Japan is famous for its numerous mountains. Almost three quarters of Japan is mountainous, and each of the main islands has a mountain range running through it. Mount Fuji (3,776 m) is the highest mountain in Japan, one of the country’s “Three Holy Mountains”, and one of the most recognizable symbols of Japan. Other notable mountains include Mount Kita, Mount Hotaka, Mount Yari, Mount Tate, Mount Haku, and Mount Kumotori. Some of them are active volcanoes. The campaign to have a Mountain Day was initiated by tourist and nature protection organizations, including the Japanese Alpine Club, and supported by legislator Seishiro Eto. The legislation states that the main goal of the new public holiday is to provide “opportunities to get familiar with mountains and appreciate blessings from mountains.” It was decided to celebrate Mountain Day in August for several reasons. First, the kanji (Chinese characters used in written Japanese) for “eight” looks a bit like a mountain. Second, before the adoption of Mountain Day there were no public holidays in August, so this month seemed like a logical choice. Despite Japan’s high levels of urbanization, many Japanese people are more in touch with nature than people in other developed nations. That’s why for some of them Mountain Day is a perfect occasion to take a trip to the mountains. Nevertheless, nearly a third of Japanese people see Mountain Day as just an extra day off work. Does anyone fancy a swim? It’s the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere in terms of daylight hours and the druids have celebrated sunrise at Stonehenge. Well, sunrise in the sense of it reluctantly getting lighter rather than seeing the sun itself. To put a positive spin on it, as it were, today could be a good one for offshore wind energy (unless the gale force winds are too strong). Not an ideal day for the beach perhaps. Unless you own a steamer wetsuit and wish to re-enact a scene from Point break. No thanks.. For me, this is the day to think about the year ahead and dream of sunny warm days. Also, to prepare for the Christmas festivities and gradually relax after what has been a tumultuous 2023. What we might call a curate’s egg of a year with many good things and some terrible ones on the world stage. The lights will be switched off at the Jo Bird factory at lunchtime today and be relit on the 2nd of January 2024. With many of the issues with offshore wind having been resolved, 2024 should be another good year. As for the Jo Bird organisation, we are in much better shape with a strong well motivated workforce. It was a pleasure walking around the laminating area this week, as everyone was in a good mood. This was buoyed by many kind messages coming in from our distributors across the globe. Although spring reminds us about its arrival ever so gently, it often seems that the transition from winter to spring speeds up and before we know it, we find ourselves at the end of April. This is not surprising - as the light returns and the days lengthen, life inside and around us accelerates. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝, 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬. The slowness and introspection of winter are undoubtedly behind us. Everything goes into a higher gear and every day seems like it's becoming too short to experience and do everything we want and need. The focus is no longer so much on the inside but on the outside, on what surrounds us. And the external reflects back to us the same- that it is time to speed up. In this period, the connection with the inner world still exists, but it is often not in the foreground.
