📣 Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd surprise with joint East-West network  The #liner shipping scene was caught by surprise last week when Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announced a new partnership on the main East - West routes, starting in February 2025 under the name "#Gemini Cooperation".   ⚠️ The announcement marks a U-turn in Maersk's stance to "operate independently" after the end of the 2M partnership with MSC. It will also see Hapag-Lloyd leave THE Alliance after eight years. Another significant move by Candace McGraw and her team at CVG Airport - Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport! Much thanks, also, to Senator Chris McDaniel for his legislative assistance with the project!   "CVG wants to develop what it calls North Cargo into a village where companies ship large parcels – high-value goods that are time sensitive. It would include entire cars or large pallets of pharmaceuticals, compared with the relatively small packages shipped by Amazon and DHL Express. Currently, such shipping makes up only 1% of CVG’s growing cargo business. The airport wants to expand the airfield to provide more direct ramp access and aircraft parking positions...   Third parties could build up to three forwarding facilities, a sort facility and three freighter facilities with spaces for 20 jets, according to the airport’s preliminary concept. Forwarders basically are the travel agents of the freight world – companies drop their goods off and say where they need to go as well as the time frame. Freighter facilities are warehouses where goods are stored before being transferred to a sort facility to be organized for their next move." https://lnkd.in/gFGswrbR
