📢 MSC took delivery of the MSC MARIACRISTINA last week. The 16,200 teu LNG-powered vessel is the first of six MARIC-designed "Maxi-Neo-Panamax" vessels that will be delivered to MSC by CSSC Group's Dalian Shipyard (DSIC). 🌐 ⏱️ Going forward, the majority of MSC's newbuildings in this vessel class will be LNG dual-fuel powered. 📅 Meanwhile, South Korea's Hyundai Samho shipyard delivered the 8,048 teu CMA CGM POINTE-NOIRE. It's the second in a series of nine LNG-powered "Hyundai 8000 LNG" type vessels that CMA CGM ordered in February 2022 for about $119m per ship. 🛳️ 📊 These vessels bring the total number of LNG-powered Container Ships to be delivered so far in 2024 up to 48. CMA CGM is the market leader with 59 LNG-fuelled vessels currently in active service. ℹ️ While MSC's LNG-powered fleet is ranked third in terms of vessel count, the prevalence of larger-capacity ships in its ranks place it second in LNG-fuelled capacity. 📈 🎉 Our AXSInsights module allows you to monitor LNG-powered, Methanol-fuelled, and scrubber-fitted vessels in extensive detail. 💡 Find out more at https://bit.ly/3Lu0w6t.

📣 The Loadstar: "According to Alphaliner, the chairman of Korea’s Harim Group has confirmed it would submit a new bid for HMM if the carrier was put up for sale again." ℹ️ The disposal of a 57.9% majority stake in HMM to Harim collapsed in February this year after the two sides were unable to agree terms. 💰 Harim and partners private equity fund JKL Partners had offered KRW 6.4 trn ($4.9 bn) for the shareholding, some KRW 200 bn more than fellow shortlisted bidder, seafood group Dongwon Group. 💸 👎 However, Harim walked away from the deal after rejecting the terms offered by the government sellers, who had demanded a strict lock-up period. ✅ State-owned Korea Development Bank (KDB) and Korea Ocean Business Corp (KOBC) currently retain the majority control, plus bonds, in the carrier. 💡 Stay on top of the latest news in Liner shipping at https://okt.to/4TxHQi.
The chairman of Korea’s Harim Group has confirmed it would submit a new bid for HMM if the carrier was put up for sale again, according to Alphaliner today. But Harim chairman Kim Hong-kuk has reportedly questioned whether the government was "sincere” about selling to the private sector... 🤩 Check out our Jan Tiedemann's view from the sky during his recent flight to Frankfurt. ☁️ 🔎 Spotted: 🚢 MSC AVNI 🚢 MSC MAPUTO 🚢 HMM HELSINKI ✈️ We'd also love a window seat with such a view from the sky!
Quick snapshot from my Lufthansa flight today from Hamburg to Frankfurt: You can see the MSC AVNI and MSC MAPUTO of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company at EUROGATE Group and the HMM HELSINKI of HMM at HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG. The latter is somewhat hidden behind all the big ship-to-shore cranes. The crane lineup at HHLA's CTB looks a bit thinned out, bit the first of five new replacement cranes from ZPMC are underway.

📢 X-Press increases lead as world's largest feeder operator! 📈 X-Press Feeders has widened the gap on its main rival Unifeeder as the world's largest common feeder operator. The Singapore-headquartered X-Press (ranked 13ᵗʰ overall in the Alphaliner Top 100) has expanded its fleet by an impressive 21.8% or 35,000 teu since October 2023. By comparison, the global liner fleet grew by 10.9% in the same period. 📊 ℹ️ At the same time, Unifeeder (ranked 17ᵗʰ) has increased its fleet capacity by 23,000 teu, which represents a growth rate of 17.9%. 🌍 Both carriers are benefitting from the Red Sea crisis which has forced most mainline operators (MLOs) to avoid the Suez Canal and instead call on third party feeder operators. 🗺️ This has resulted in an upswing in shortsea traffic, on trades such as the Middle East/Indian Subcontinent trade for X-Press, and Intra-Med traffic for Unimed Feeder Services (UFS), the Intra-Med affiliate of Unifeeder. 🌐 Unifeeder is an asset-light operator relying fully on the charter market for its tonnage needs. By contrast, the proportion of owned ships in X-Press Feeder's fleet currently stands at 59%, down from 62% in October 2023. ✅ Subscribe to the Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter for more details on thie topic and other latest news in Liner shipping at https://okt.to/4TxHQi.

📢 Live maps showing how each Container Ship class is impacted by the Red Sea crisis uniquely. 📈 August and September saw absolute records for sub-Panamax Container vessels of less than 4,000 TEU capacity, with over 100 vessels crossing the Suez Canal each month. 📉 Conversely, Container carriers between 4,000 and 7,500 TEU capacity saw an absolute low of just 18 vessels traversing the Canal last month, representing a 79.3% year-over-year decrease in traffic for this fleet segment. 📋 Just 15 Container Ships of TEU capacity between 7,500 and 18,000 passed through the Suez Canal throughout September for a 94.4% year-over-year drop in crossings. 📊 🛑 No ULCS Megamax Container Ship of 18,000 and more TEU capacity has traversed the Canal since March. 🚧 👨💻 Alphaliner's AXSInsights module allows you to monitor Canals' traffic, as well as Cape of Good Hope reroutes, in as much detail as you need. 📢 LNG orders significantly overshadow methanol in 2024! ♻️ Concerns over the future availability of green methanol are clearly reflected in carriers’ newbuilding orders this year. After dominating the newbuilding market last year, the proportion of methanol-fuel contracts has fallen sharply in the first ten months of 2024. 📉 🌐 Methanol-powered ships so far represent just 21% of new capacity ordered in 2024, a significant drop on the 51% seen in 2023. Underlining the decline, methanol capacity contracted this year has fallen below demand for conventional tonnage again. 📊 Instead, LNG propulsion has re-asserted itself as carriers' principal short-tomedium term choice on the path to decarbonisation. ↗️ In what is expected to be a record-breaking year for containership contracting, as of 14 October Alphaliner reported a total of 264 orders (all propulsion types) equivalent to 3.11 Mteu. Some 77.5% of capacity ordered represents 'green' tonnage. 😱 Fears of insufficient methanol supply have multiplied this year as the fuel's processing costs have proved higher than expected and planned production has failed to take off. ✅ Subscribe to the Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter for more details on thie topic and other latest news in Liner shipping at https://okt.to/4TxHQi.
