The regular theft of books on addiction and recovery has led to a proposal for a free book program in San Francisco. The initiative aims to offer support and potentially lead individuals to seek further assistance from the city's numerous recovery programs. The proposal, if approved, would make San Francisco the first city to offer such widespread access to recovery literature. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g2tNEBe8 Excerpts from the article: “... books that will be offered include AA’s 12-step program, first released in 1939, as well as publications by Narcotics Anonymous and Crystal Meth Anonymous and many other substance use recovery programs. The texts will be offered in all available languages, and those who want them won’t be required to have a library card, according to Dorsey’s proposed legislation.” “For some addicted people, reading a recovery book can be the first time they feel understood, the first time they feel some hope,” said Keith Humphreys, professor of psychiatry at Stanford University and former White House Senior Drug Policy Advisor in the Obama Administration.” “It can be hard to get into treatment; maybe there is a waiting list, but this is something anybody can access right away,” he said.” #thecreativehigh #sobriety #artmentalhealth #sanfranciscobay #artist #art #supportartists #recovery #documentary #sanfrancisco #sanfranciscofilm #sffilm #bayarea #bayareafilm #creativity #sanfrancisco #kqed #pbs #kqedsanfrancisco #publiclibrary #sfpl #recoveryreads #sanfranciscolibrary #twelvestep #freebooks #mentalhealthmatters #artmentalhealth KQED San Francisco Public Library

Parents and caregivers are critical to enhancing a child's ability to engage in treatment when behavioral health issues are present. This is especially true given the large discrepancy in treatment uptake along the Behavioral Health Services Cascade for youth involved in the juvenile legal system (Belenko et al., 2017). In this new article, we explore the relationship between caregiver well-being and barriers often experienced by families trying to engage in treatment services.
