Amsterdam !! Someone's got to do it. Oh, it's for work, my customers will be there. Yeah right, that too !! There's good reason major industry events are located in some of the most attractive cities in the world. For mine, Amsterdam tops them all, with maybe Barcelona following a close second - they both have good coffee houses. :) Well, with the Covid interlude out of the way, Amsterdam once again awaits with the Broadcast Industries most anticipated annual get together, IBC. Over 50,000 people come and hang out, not all go to the same coffee house at the same time !! Our partners Media Links and Dimetis GmbH will be putting their best foot forward and exhibiting. Media Links showcasing some of its new and leading broadcast technologies that underpin Olympics broadcasting and broadcasting in major geographies, including across the Australian and North American continents. Oh, that's right, our partner in crime, Telstra, have their own exhibit and a healthy contingency heading over to fly the good flag of Australian competency and ingenuity in global broadcasting. We'll quietly say that the DVN is the backbone of all that wonderful ingenuity.. shhhhh. I digress. Looking forward to catching up with old friends and acquaintances, making some new ones and ensuring the quality of the coffee houses are to spec. See you at IBC! #IBC2024 #BroadcastInnovation #MediaLinks #Telstra #DVN #NetworkSupport #Partnerships #Innovation

In the 1920s, a time of significant economic and technological advancement in Europe, radio emerged as a revolutionary communications tool. It quickly demonstrated its potential for disseminating information but also revealed its limitations and dangers. By the early 1930s, as Fascist ideology spread and Europe’s balance of power shifted, radio became a powerful weapon of mass propaganda. Both European and Middle Eastern imperialist powers employed radio for aggressive influence strategies. In 1932, the establishment of Radio Bari by Italy marked the beginning of an unprecedented international propaganda war. For nearly a decade, Italian, French, German, and British radio stations competed to win the support of Arab and European listeners, shaping major geopolitical events. This radio conflict contributed to the escalation of tensions leading up to the Second World War. Amid espionage, diplomacy, politics, and revolts, France, England, Germany, and Italy fought to dominate the ideological landscape. Through reconstructions and archival materials from Italian, English, French, German, and American sources, and by exploring the careers of key figures behind these radio stations, this two-part documentary reveals the story of this major radio conflict that significantly altered the course of history. Exciting news from the Italian Trade Commission at #TIFF24! We're thrilled to introduce six exceptional producers, each showcasing captivating films that highlight the richness of Italian cinema. These talented filmmakers bring unique visions to the global stage, offering a glimpse into the diverse storytelling that defines Italy's cinematic heritage. Join us on September 7 at 9 am at the TIFF Lightbox for the exclusive "Spotlight: Italy, Your Strategic Film Partner! Pitching, Funds, and Incentives Forum." Six visionary producers, selected by Telefilm Canada, will pitch their projects, seeking co-production and funding opportunities throughout the festival. Don't miss this celebration of Italian artistry and innovation in film! The last of these films is RADIO WAR by NACNE, produced by Federico Schiavi. Meet Federico and the other Italian Producers @ TIFF 2024! #italyatTIFF

I know as well as anyone that every city in the #North is different. While they might share things like a strong sense of community, the production of great music and extremely passionate sports fans, they all face different challenges and opportunities. Today, the annual Demos-PwC UK Good Growth for Cities Index has been released, and the picture across the North mirrors this. Our region is performing well for skills and jobs, and yet there's disparity in other crucial areas. This research is important, because it highlights the need for localised plans now more than ever. The introduction of industrial strategies that drill down into the heart of local issues is the only way that regional balance will move forward. In partnership with the EU-TAF, the TIP seeks to appoint a suitably qualified service provider to design and execute an arts festival on anti-corruption in Gauteng. 🔍 The Transparency, Integrity and Accountability Programme (TIP) supports state and non-state actors to contribute towards the implementation of the National Anti-corruption Strategy (NACS) in a whole-of-government and societal manner. Great to see Bolton Clarke's work on social connection being recognised with loneliness awareness week coming up. Isolation in older people tends to get less attention because loneliness surveys show higher prevalence in younger cohorts. But the issue for older people is more likely to be lack of contact per se rather than not feeling connected. This isolation is also often more clearly situational, resulting from things like loss of work social networks, the death of loved ones, or health related loss of mobility/independence. Situational issues tend to be easier to address with interventions. The trick is connecting people with appropriate supports - which is often just helping them find something they can do that they enjoy. Public health campaigns around exercise have had a profound impact on the goals and behaviour of older people. Likely also saving governments lots of money through improved functional health. Putting the same level of effort into addressing isolation has the potential to deliver even bigger dividends. #agedcare #publichealth
We're excited to announce Bolton Clarke's work to build #socialconnection has been recognised with a nomination to the Silver Eco International Awards in France in the Fighting Isolation category. We'll be sharing some stories of this work over coming weeks. Find out more and vote for us here! #ageingwell #positiveageing https://lnkd.in/eR-YGZA9

EG EDITOR’S COMMENT The sun was definitely shining in Cannes and there was definitely a decent amount of upbeat chat around pivot, inflection and turning points, but the conference definitely felt a little different this year. It appeared smaller – at least from a UK perspective. It was less busy inside the confines of the event barriers and even the usual haunts of New York New York and Bar Roma seemed to be more easily accessible. There were no swarms of people desperate to do deals with each other over an overpriced rosé or beer. The UK’s big cities were still in attendance, but it was definitely more muted. And while investment minister Lord Dominic Johnson was there again, fulfilling his job as the “UK’s greatest salesman”, there wasn’t launch after launch after launch of major regeneration opportunities. Sciontec, the developer jointly owned by Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Liverpool, Liverpool City Council and Bruntwood SciTech, announced plans to create 350,000 sq ft of new laboratories and workspace in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter; Cardiff was pitching for more than £1bn of investment to transform the former Aberthaw power station into a green energy hub; and Opportunity London chief executive Jace Tyrrell was never seen without his “London: Bursting with opportunity” sign. And there was, of course, the launch of the search for a development partner to bring forward the £725m resi-led redevelopment of Forth Yards in Newcastle, as revealed by EG. Homes England, which bought the site out of administration last month, has appointed Avison Young to find the partner. But that was about it. However, whether the grand launches and the big deal chat was there or not – even the usual gossip about the merger of two well-known agencies didn’t really take off – there were conversations happening. And dare I say it, they were refreshingly changed. Read more ⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eQC54JuU

Important Announcement: Postponement of the 2nd Lagos International Film and Cinema Convention Dear Delegates We regret to announce that the 2nd Lagos International Film and Cinema Convention, initially scheduled for August 1-3, 2024, has been postponed. The new dates for the convention are now August 14-15, 2024. This decision was made in response to the announced peaceful mass protest against the high cost of living and other matters affecting the citizenry. The protest, planned for August 1, coincides with the start date of the convention. After receiving feedback and intelligent advice from delegates and other important stakeholders, it became evident that the protest would significantly impact attendance due to anticipated low movement and traffic as people observe developments before venturing out for business. Such a situation could dampen the mood and adversely affect the success of the convention.
