One of my favourite areas of advancement in cloud computing is hybrid supercomputing which combines both classical and quantum capabilities and has the potential to solve classically intractable problems. These hybrid supercomputers will run computations on highly reliable logical qubits. 🔬 Scientifically valuable problems will start to be solved with around 100 reliable logical qubits while commercial-scale solutions will require upwards of 1000 reliable logical qubits. To make this potential a reality, recently Microsoft and our fantastic partners Quantinuum announced a key breakthrough that launches the field into reliable quantum computing by creating the most reliable logical qubits on record. 🎉 With a logical error rate 800 times better than physical qubits, we're ushering in a new era of possibilities, propelling us closer to reliable quantum computing than ever before. 🌍✨ Recently, platforms such as photonic quantum computing have received substantial backing, further pushing the boundaries of this technology. For instance, PsiQuantum has secured an impressive $940 million AUD ($620 million USD) to install a 1-million-qubit machine in Australia by 2027. Although the exact number of logical qubits that will result from these 1 million physical qubits has not been disclosed, it is anticipated to be in the several thousands. This would surpass any existing roadmap from current vendors, making it a groundbreaking development in the field. In the US, particularly around Chicago, there’s a $20 billion investment aimed at establishing Illinois as a quantum computing hub, with PsiQuantum also at the forefront of this industrial-scale project. This ambitious endeavor is expected to catalyze significant technological and economic growth in the area. Europe is not far behind. France, in particular, is asserting its leadership in AI and quantum computing in continental Europe. The country has announced seven major investments to bolster its infrastructure and support its growing ecosystem. From Accenture’s AI centers to Amazon’s substantial investments in cloud infrastructure, and IQM Quantum Computers’ new production unit, France is rapidly becoming a powerhouse in the field. 🚀 **🚀 Four years ago, Denis Terentev and I were navigating the challenges of our second startup, exploring the realms of quantum computing with D-Wave's technology and Pegasus architecture. Fast forward to today, and the quantum landscape has transformed with the unveiling of D-Wave's Advantage2 prototype. This new quantum leap features over 1,200 qubits and 20-way qubit connectivity, pushing the boundaries of problem-solving capabilitieseven thurther. The Advantage2 system demonstrates a 40% increase in energy scale and double the qubit coherence time, significantly enhancing solution quality and speed. There are major differences between quantum computing and a Quantum Ecosystem (cSnc) and it all comes down to 2 major factors: the capabilities for an effective digital transformation process and the security prioritization designed specifically for end user, their devices and/or infrastructure. Quantum Computing operating as standalone, is a "function within" the ecosystem and demonstrates its computational power in a more isolated or localized cloud environment, whereby the Quantum Ecosystem demonstrates this very function of computation for analytical power throughout the whole system for network and communication. We are thrilled to announce that a Japanese consortium of research partners* have been honored with the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award at the 53rd Japan Industrial Technology Awards. This accolade was bestowed in recognition of the successful development of a high-performance computing platform that leverages Japan's second domestically-made superconducting quantum computer. The platform leverages Japan's second domestically-made 64-qubit superconducting quantum computer, which has been offered on the cloud since October 2023 to promote its use for commercial industrial research and development, and jointly developed by Fujitsu and RIKEN based on the know-how for the development of the first domestically-made 64-qubit superconducting quantum computer released in March 2023 by the joint research group. The joint research group will continue to promote the social implementation of quantum computing by leveraging the strengths of each organization.
