#DidYouKnow that planting is the easiest step in mangrove restoration? The real challenge lies in monitoring their growth! 🌿 🔍 Why Monitoring Matters? Monitoring allows us to track the growth of planted seedlings by regularly counting the number of leaves and measuring their height. This helps ensure that restoration efforts are on the right path and identify any issues early on. 🤔 What if We Find Dead Seedlings? During monitoring, if we find dead seedlings, we take action! This process is known in Bahasa Indonesia as “penyulaman,” where we replace the dead seedlings with new ones to maintain healthy growth. 💡 Key to Success? For successful mangrove restoration, it’s critical to plant in suitable sites. This means areas with solid sediment, protection from strong waves, good water quality, and minimal pests. And of course, plant healthy seedlings! By doing so, we give mangrove seedlings the best chance to thrive and restore our coastal ecosystems! #BCAF #BlueCarbonAcceleratorFund #MangroveRestoration #conservation #EcosystemResilience #BlueCarbon #SDG13 #SDG14 #mangrove #mangroves #coastal #ecosystem #carbon #climateaction #coastalecosystem #marine

Just published! This paper, led by Pak Rudijanta, aimed to elaborate on the periodical METT assessments applied across Indonesia Protected Areas. We then tried to understand what factors contribute to the METT score change across time and identify recommendations for future studies especially how we can use METT to know how well conservation objectives are achieved. 👋 Hey, did someone say HAY?🌾 Our GoodRich team got down and dirty with some serious hay mulching action! Just another day in paradise... 🌱🚜 Getting that mahi done are our lads Jason, Max, Jake and Takana, great work team! We are dedicated to protecting and preserving our environment through sustainable practices like hay mulching. This technique is crucial for controlling erosion, as it helps stabilize the soil and promotes the growth of vegetation on slopes and disturbed land. By laying hay over vulnerable soil, we create a natural barrier against wind and water erosion, safeguarding our landscapes and providing a fertile ground for new plant life to thrive. This practice plays a vital role in our efforts to restore and maintain healthy ecosystems, ensuring our landscapes are robust and resilient. www.goodrich.nz

Props to Choon Chyuan Low for this eye-opening piece about the realities of deforestation in Malaysia. While sustainability certifications often sound promising, the on-the-ground implementation can paint a different picture. Summary: This investigative report exposes mismanagement in Pahang's oil palm plantation projects (which are certified sustainable). Massive deforestation for PKNP's plantation has disrupted villagers' water supply and destroyed wildlife habitat. The oil palm plantation project suffers from poor yields because of encroachment by displaced elephants and yet, remains eight years on. Experts believe the "worst-managed oil palm plantation in Malaysia" remains a front for lucrative timber logging. Go read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gvgZNQCa

In addressing water challenges in Bali, Kopernik is supporting the Bali Watershed Management Coordination Forum (FORDAS Bali) to coordinate water preservation efforts among various stakeholders, aiming for integrated watershed management on the island. This initiative targets critical lands in the midstream to upstream areas of the Ayung watershed, one of Bali's major water sources spanning five regencies and one city. These areas are often compromised due to factors such as excessive groundwater extraction, reduced water reserves, and water and soil contamination. To sustain these efforts, we have implemented a Payment For Environmental Services (PES) system, compensating individuals or organizations for the environmental services they provide. We are inviting business owners or individuals to pledge in and support the initiative. Your participation is crucial in making a meaningful impact on water conservation efforts in Bali. Check out this post or visit https://lnkd.in/gb5ja9yT to learn more! #Kopernik #FindingWhatWorks #WaterCrisis #BaliWatershed #PES
