After finishing up my work with teachers at Towson University, I am even more certain that if we fail to focus on caring for our educators we will continue to see the teacher retention crisis continue. We need to... 📣 Amplify teacher voice 🤝 Make teachers partners in the work 🖌 Provide teachers the autonomy to be artists and experts 📱 Create more inclusive and effective communication systems Teaching might be a passion, but it's also a profession. We can do better. #edleadership #principals #teacherretention #schools

It's another #TeacherTuesday, and we are so delighted to spotlight Coach Sammy Byther! An educator at Mendenhall High School, Coach Byther holds many titles, including ninth-grade English teacher, junior varsity head football coach, and varsity defensive coordinator. As part of the Mendenhall High School football coaching staff, Coach Byther has played an integral part in the varsity team earning the titles of district champs three years in a row; 2022-23 South State Champs; and 2022-23 4A state runner-up. Outside of Simpson County, Coach Byther also holds other accolades, including recipient of the Athletic and Academic Excellence Award from Wesson High School and Wesson’s Key to the City recipient. When asked how does he help our students believe, achieve and succeed, he stated: “When it comes to helping students believe, achieve, and succeed daily, there are a few strategies I use. One approach is to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued and encouraged. Creating a positive learning environment can involve various strategies. One example is fostering a sense of community in the classroom by encouraging collaboration and teamwork among students. This can be done through group projects, peer-to-peer learning, or even class discussions where everyone's ideas are valued. Another example is promoting inclusivity and respect by celebrating diversity and addressing any instances of bullying or discrimination. Providing a safe and supportive space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves is key. Additionally, setting clear goals and providing regular feedback can help students track their progress and stay motivated. It is also important to provide opportunities for students to explore their interests and passions, as this can foster a sense of purpose and drive.” Thank you, Coach Byther, for all that you to do to ensure our students “Believe, Achieve, Succeed – Every Day!” #WeAreSimpson #BelieveAchieveSucceed #TeacherTuesday

The #InterpersonalSkills of our students are remarkably strong, offering true value for a lifetime. How do we make this happen? It starts with the authentic #Montessori method practiced at Bowman, including "multi-age classrooms," reinforced each year with "grace and courtesy" ground rules. (This extends from #preK through #highschool.) We then create extra opportunities for multi-age sharing, such as the #Buddy Program, pictured below. Here, elementary students are paired with older, adolescent students for their monthly buddy activity: exploring, laughing and enjoying together. Other school programs introduce different dimensions of collaboration (in addition to the Montessori cornerstone of #independentwork, which is foundational for each Bowman student). By the time they graduate, our students are seasoned practitioners of #connecting well with others. They intrinsically understand when to #lead, when to #follow; how to #respect others; how to #askforhelp, and how to #advocate for oneself ... precisely the kind of #socialemotional maturity that employers seek, and families celebrate. #BowmanCommunity #MentorshipMoments #InspiringConnections #BowmanCamaraderie #GrowingTogether #MontessoriEducation #DiscoverCreateBecome

Transformational School Principal • Helping School Leaders achieve great results for students + staff • Turnaround Expertise • Conference Speaker
When I first took over my school, we were failing kids. ❌ Our math data was averaging 35%-45% proficiency in every grade. ❌ Our reading data was averaging 35%-45% proficiency in every grade. Now? ✔ We're consistently above 90% proficiency in math, with a school-wide average of 93%. ✔ Every grade is above 80% proficiency in reading, with a school-wide average of 85%. I often get asked the question of how'd I do it. One way? Leadership Team Walkthroughs. Every week, I lead my team through 3-4 walkthroughs of different subjects, which has allowed us to rapidly improve the quality of instruction across our school. Check out how I structure my walkthroughs + let me know if you'd add anything. #schoolprincipals #schoolleaders #turnaroundschool #staffdevelopment __ Currently hiring for: - 4th Grade Lead Teacher - Lead Art Teacher - Lead Dance Teacher
