In it for the kids! It’s been so exciting to lead the strategic planning process for the beloved St. James's Children's Center, in partnership with Executive Director Diahann Whittington and Board Chair Stacy Brinkley. This nonprofit early childhood education center has been a shining star in the early childhood space for years. Despite a strong culture and shared sense of the philosophy of the organization, there was no unifying Vision Statement to capture it. So we wrote one that captures both the current and long-term impact of the Children’s Center’s work: “Our work creates a more connected, compassionate and capable community, today and in the future.” (Side note: We’re particularly proud of the alliteration. 🤓) Through some thoughtful and meaningful discussions between the planning team, staff/teachers, board, and stakeholders in the community, the Children’s Center has crafted a plan that is both inspiring and achievable. The Goals and Strategies in the plan will lead to real benefits for children, families, and early childhood educators. But I don’t have to just watch from the sidelines, because I’ll be staying regularly engaged with Diahann as she quarterbacks the implementation of the plan.
