Bus networks do not always grab headlines, but they play a crucial role in helping cities and regions reduce carbon emissions and become more accessible for all residents and visitors. Recognising this, we are developing a bus master plan for Abu Dhabi to support the Emirate in achieving its economic growth ambitions, enhancing connectivity, and contributing towards decarbonisation. When combined with our journey time and route optimisation work, this master plan aims to provide a more reliable and comfortable experience for passengers, enabling more residents and visitors to use public transport. The Digitalization and Sustainability Transformation of Saudi Arabia's Airports --- How is the aviation industry embracing digital transformation to ensure a sustainable future? The Covid-19 pandemic posed significant challenges for the aviation industry, but global air traffic has largely rebounded to pre-pandemic levels. This resurgence underscores the critical need for airports to focus on digitalization and sustainability, driven by investments in technology and process automation. These advancements optimize operational planning, enhance passenger flow, and improve asset management, reflecting a strong commitment to resilience and progress. According to Hani Al Sayed, our Growth Expert, Vice President and KSA Country Leader, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been at the forefront of airport digitalization and sustainability efforts. He states, “Saudi airports have heavily invested in modernizing their infrastructure and processes, deploying the latest technologies to enhance efficiency, passenger experience, and environmental sustainability. The investment opportunities within the Kingdom's airports exceed $50 billion”. ➡️ King Abdulaziz International Airport in #Jeddah has implemented advanced biometric systems, self-service kiosks, and data analytics to streamline passenger flows. ➡️ Meanwhile, the newly opened Neom Bay Airport is designed as a fully digital, sustainable, and autonomous airport of the future. The Saudi aviation authority has also set ambitious goals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across the Kingdom's airports by 2060, in line with the Kingdom's broader sustainability commitments. This involves initiatives such as using renewable energy, electrifying ground operations, and implementing circular economy principles. Always GREAT to be in Riyadh! Many things have changed in Riyadh since Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched #vision2030 in 2016. Nevertheless, one thing seems to be gradually the constant: development. The amount of tower cranes you see in your way from the airport to your hotel is astonishing. It’s a city that’s growing significantly through implementing ambitious projects like King Salman Park Foundation and New Murabba and re-envisioning aviation services through Riyadh Air | طيران الرياض. Witnessing the size of construction, I wasn’t surprised at all to see many global companies at KAFD | كافد and many bigger ones like Amazon and Google preparing to open large regional offices in Riyadh. Riyadh enjoys a distinct vibe and literally never sleeps. It’s why the Saudi government puts a strong emphasis on its potential, investing billions of dollars on its projects. It’s not just about Riyadh being the Kingdom’s capital. The city has its unique culture, one that values the heritage but appreciates the beauty of new things. That’s why Riyadh can and will grow to be a stronger regional hub for technology, venture capital, transportation and more.
