What I focused on during our recent family trip for Spring Break: Truly being THERE. Present with my family. There have been many times as a leader when I didn't do this well, or at least not as well as I would have liked. I've let work creep into family time, and while there's something wonderful about getting to balance BOTH as an entrepreneur, I'm more focused than ever on not missing a single moment of these fleeting moments with my wife and kids. The thing is, if we don't plan for it, it won't happen. Here are 5 things that help me plan for presence as a family man and leader: 1️⃣ Put it on the calendar where everyone can see it. 2️⃣ Add accountability by asking a trusted friend or counterpart to hold you to your commitment. 3️⃣ Have backup at work by asking someone from your team to lead things in your place. 4️⃣ Set technology appropriately with your phone on DND and an OOO email response. 5️⃣ Remember why you're doing it, what you're thankful for, and who you’re being present with. We have to intentionally be mindful of what matters most and remember that work will always be there when we get back. This will empower us to show up as a leader in every area of our lives. March is a month of marching forward, or so the catchphrase goes. But why limit ourselves to just one month? Shouldn't we be striving to grow and improve every day? It's easy to get caught up in the idea of a fresh start at the beginning of a new month, but let's not forget that progress doesn't happen overnight. 🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Life Experience! 🎉 Today marks a significant milestone - a quarter of a century on this planet. It's the perfect opportunity for a retrospective and to set ambitious goals for the future. In conversations about aspirations, I often reference the concept of a "North Star." 🌟 For me, a North Star symbolizes the dreams and ideas that resonate deeply and guide my journey forward. A common misconception is that we each have only one North Star, predestined and singular. I believe the sky is filled with countless stars, each shining with its own light and significance. The first 25 years of my life have been spent exploring some of them: ✨ The Star of Passion: Whether it's the adrenaline of sports or the logic of computer science, striving for excellence is what I live for. 📚 The Star of Knowledge: An insatiable thirst for learning and exploring the theoretical corners of understanding. 🌍 The Star of Freedom: Traveling the world and cherishing independence at every step. 🤝 The Star of People: Learning invaluable lessons from every individual I've encountered. With a Master's degree in software engineering, I'm now reaching for the entrepreneurial star. 💪 Courage: It's what I needed to take the first step. 🚀 Resilience, Hard Work, Passion, Luck, Support from incredible people around me: It's what I'll need all the way to succeed in this path. I have no illusions of immediate, groundbreaking success. I understand this journey is a marathon, not a sprint—filled with highs and lows, achievements, and challenges. Yet, the dream of attaining freedom, flexibility, creativity, and purpose in my work resonates with me more than ever, and I am convinced this is the path for me. End of an era! There are times in life when you are given the opportunity to do great things, and you have to seize it. This happened to me in April 2017 when Tide’s founder, George Bevis, and the CTO, Matt W., brought me in and gave me that life-changing opportunity. I will be forever grateful for that. But now, after seven years, the time has come for me to leave my baby blue, Tide 🙂. It was a hard decision, as I have been living and breathing Tide for the last seven years. I helped it grow from a tiny company of 25 people to a thriving organisation of aprox. 2000. We scaled our product, launched new offerings, opened offices in new locations, expanded our culture and global footprint, and achieved many more amazing things together. It was a true rollercoaster of emotions, with many failures (and learnings) but many more successes. I had a fantastic team (the best, really 😎) and incredible colleagues like Benjamin Petit, Tiago Bencardino and Samson Muhangi (and many others who are too many to mention in a post) who went above and beyond to help us achieve our vision. And a great manager, Guy Duncan who believed in me and pushed me outside my comfort zone. Although I am super excited about my unknown and uncertain future, it is a bittersweet feeling as I leave behind many friends, colleagues, and a great work culture. But I take with me a wealth of memories and lasting friendships that I will cherish forever and keep close to my heart. As for my next steps? I’m planning a good (and well-earned) break from work, taking the summer off to rest, reflect, reset, recharge, and restart. I have a pile of books to catch up on and a few courses I am eager to start (and finish). But more importantly, I am looking forward to spending quality time with family and friends under the sun and near a beach! There is also something cooking in the oven for September, but I’ll save that cake for a future post. :) #tide #endofanera #changes #transitions

I try to start off the new year with good things that reflect my values. A few of my traditions: 1. I leave something special for a few others anonymously (just a little treat). Value - generosity 2. I start a new book (Tomorrowmind — thanks for the article, Bobbi Strawser Barends). Value - lifelong learning 3. I make something delicious and comforting (colcannon with sour cream and smoked salmon). Value - nourishment 4. I make an effort to sincerely compliment people when I notice something. Value - appreciation 5. I schedule time for reflection. Value - self awareness 6. I find time to spend with people who matter to me. Value - connection I falter in my commitment to these pursuits every year, but I try to start each new year with my core values at the forefront. What are your traditions?
