UKCP to equip trams with monitoring systems   The Ust-Katav Car-building Plant (UKCP) has informed ROLLINGSTOCK that it will start installing the system on the 71-628 trams and their modifications. The vehicles are now in service in Chelyabinsk and St. Petersburg. New trams with the system will be delivered to the former this summer, and in January, UKCP signed a contract to supply further trams to the city, including 25 low-floor vehicles (see https://lnkd.in/eB9ameDM for details).   Although UKCP does not specify the parameters to be monitored, it stresses that the system will cover “quite a lot” of them, from tram components to rail infrastructure. Telemetry data will be available both online and on record. “The user of the system will always have full information about the condition of a vehicle”, says UKCP. Article says there needs to be a big switch to PT to meet climate goals - ecars won't do it on their own. This needs service-led reform including train frequency uplifts and frequent buses as precursors to the Suburban Rail Loop. Here's an 'SRL SmartBus' concept for Sunshine to Sandringham. It's cheaper than it looks with a staged approach involving segments every 15 min possible with the existing bus fleet. Eg Airport - Doncaster just involves swapping 901 & 902 orbitals at Broadmeadows & Greensborough. Token Handover at Bewdley, England In railway signalling, a token is a physical object which a train driver is required to have or see before entering onto a particular section of single track. The token system was developed in Britain in the 19th century. The token is clearly endorsed with the names of the section to which it belongs.
