Today marked the launch of a new partnership between Enniscorthy Community Alliance and ECO-UNESCO, with an Information Session and Project Launch held at GreentechHQ . The programme will kick off January 13th 2025, and this collaboration will bring environmental workshops to secondary schools and Youth Reach in Enniscorthy.

At the European Action Gathering for Sustainable Food Systems in Marburg, Germany, I shared insights on the transformative power of intergenerational cooperation. "Many young people don’t want to wait for change – they want to be part of the solution," I emphasized. This approach aligns with Forum Synergies's focus on fostering innovative partnerships across generations. Our new Horizon Europe project DEMETRA has finally started! Over the next 3,5 years, we will increase our understanding of how to collectively organize food system transformations at the city level in democratic, participatory and inclusive ways. Together with a great team of researchers and civil society organizations, we will analyze and compare new deliberative participatory processes (DPPs such as citizens' assemblies, e-governance, participatory budgeting) in seven cities across Europe to gain insights on their inclusiveness and empowerment of citizens as well as on their impact on transforming local food systems. Our aim is it to identify best practices and DPPs that contribute to citizens' democratic engagement and their co-construction of sustainable food systems. Citizen participation is essential for addressing both climate change and a reducing trust in our democratic institutions. The far-reaching sustainability transformations have to become supported by and co-created by all citizens in our societies. Particularly in the light of the recent attacks against our democracies, it becomes crucial to scrutinize democratic, participatory and inclusive ways of engaging all citizens in our sustainability transitions, including citizens from marginalized groups. No one has to be left behind. Our projects seeks to provide tools for a democratic governance of sustainability transformations. Proforest joins the Science Based Targets Network Corporate Engagement Program We are delighted to announce that Proforest is an SBTN Corporate Engagement Program participant, pledging alignment with SBTN’s goals and vision and contributing feedback and end-user insights to the development of SBTN methods and tools. By joining the program we are working to ensure that water, ocean, land and biodiversity - the global commons we all depend upon - are protected and restored. We are supporting the SBT Network by building on what the companies we work with are already doing and sharing the methods companies need to set Science Based Targets for nature. We are helping to develop and road-test the guidance for science-based targets for nature to ensure they are user-friendly and easy to implement. In partnership with the Plant Futures Challenge Lab, @DefaultVeg ambassadors worked with the leadership of BEACN to make their events plant-based by default. BEACN is University of California, Berkeley’s premier student-run environmental and strategy consulting group, and this step will help them put their sustainability values into action with food. UC Berkeley is also making waves with a new commitment to make at least 50% of its entree offerings plant-based by 2027, in partnership with the The Humane Society of the United States. We send them overseas to learn, and in turn our Global Footprints Scholars open up the world to us: 2023 Agriculture Scholar Anna Sutcliffe shows us how a local council in Aotearoa New Zealand manages to preserve cultural and natural heritage, while operating a popular visitor site and a successful sheep and cattle farm - all in the same place: SDG11 in action: Pāpāmoa Hills Cultural Heritage Regional Park Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) aims to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. Within this goal, Target 11.4 aims to “strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage”. #SDG11
