Let’s have a conversation about job titles- do they matter to you? Or what matters is the responsibility that comes with it? For instance you can be responsible for the province and still be called HSE Officer, while someone with the very same job and responsibilities be called regional HSE Officer?

#HowToProtectYourselfAsHSEOfficer Many HSE officer face legal issues especially in gulf countries, many have gone to jail, many terminated, many paid hefty amounts as Blood money for the deaths of workers #FirstRule – #keep #your #side #safe* Here's the key advice: 1. Always be aware and make sure your company has HSE plan, Policy and procedures and they follow government rules. 2. Always report issues to higher management, HSE Manager, Project Manager, Engineers with proof “I told him” doesn’t work. 3. Ensure PTW system is available and followed, this will keep you safe. 4. Ensure 3rd party certificates available, valid & check with certification body (if possible) whether the certs are authentic. 5. Ensure people have given work-specific training with attendance proof before they go to work. ( eg: Crane Op training for crane operator) 6. Always use time-stamp on the pictures you take. Remember, Your job is to make sure people are Safe, have specific training, following safe working systems. Paperwork will not make work safer, but it will save you in case of an incident. Safety Officer is only an Advisor. If you think that you are not in control and no chance of getting support from management, then you have 3 options: Report, Report, Report to Management (written) to Authorities (written) If above doesn’t work – Search for another job or Go to jail anytime Please share your experiences and suggestions source entirelysafe

So, the top tips gleaned today for when an HSE inspector calls: 1. Always be polite and accommodating. “No you can’t come in, we are about to close” is not the response to give! 2. Notify your H&S team and senior managers as soon as possible. 3. Always tell the truth. 4. If you don’t know, then say so. 5. Record all interactions as soon as you can after the visit. 6. By all means push back if you don’t agree, but always be polite and reasonable. 7. Always ask your inspector what their background is. 8. An HSE inspector will rarely ask a question that they do not already know the answer to. The purpose is to see if you know, either as an individual or as an organisation. Can you think of any more?!
