𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 🌊 The highly anticipated 2024 FAO report on global fisheries and aquaculture is out, and it's making quite a splash! 💦 Here are some fascinating insights: 💥 For the first time ever, aquaculture production (94.4 million tonnes) surpassed wild capture fisheries (91 million tonnes) in 2022. Aquaculture now provides over 57% of aquatic foods for human consumption! 🥓 🔄 In a remarkable shift, China has transitioned from being a net exporter to a net importer of aquatic products. This seafood superpower now imports more than it exports. 🌍 Global consumption of aquatic foods continues to rise, reaching an estimated 20.7 kg per capita in 2022. However, many in sub-Saharan Africa are being left behind, with declining per capita consumption. 😔 💰 The value of global fisheries and aquaculture production hit a record $472 billion in 2022, with aquatic products remaining one of the most traded food commodities worldwide. 💸 🌱 Sustainable aquaculture growth is crucial, especially in regions like Africa, where its vast potential remains largely untapped. Targeted policies and investments are key. 🌍 There's so much more to uncover in this treasure trove of insights! 📖 Stay tuned for more updates, or dive into the full report yourself at https://lnkd.in/gScDT8dT. The tides are shifting, and the aquatic world is brimming with opportunities and challenges. Let's make waves towards a more sustainable and equitable future! 🌱 #Fisheries #Aquaculture #FoodSecurity #Sustainability #BlueEconomy

Did you wake up one day asking yourself: Where is the global fisheries & aquaculture market going? Well, you're in luck - FAOs latest flagship report on aquaculture makes some predictions 1. Growth of global capacity expected at average of 3million tons p.a. for the next 10 years 2. Merely all of that to be in aquaculture, while capture fisheries remain flat 3. To retain current levels of consumption 22% more supply is needed globally by 2050 What does that mean for sustainable and impact investments? A tonne of RAS production capacity is about EUR 30-35k in capex, meaning an investment need of some 100bn p.a. for the next 10 years. With sufficient demand and the right policies such investment can be primarily sustainable. Our bet at aquamarine - impact capital partners is on sustainable aquaculture tech and working hard to be a meaningful part of this wave. #sustainableaquaculture #impactinvestments

🐟🙋♂️🙅♀️🙎🐟Beliefs, perception, knowledge, local specificities... what are the factors influencing the #socialacceptability of #aquaculture? How can stakeholders get a better grip on these to create interest, acceptance and a desire for aquaculture? This is one of the challenges addressed by the FAO 2030 strategy, which insist and provides guidance on technical #cooperation, #knowledge sharing and efficient #partnerships at #maritime basin level. Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Modeling of the Salted Tilapia Fish Cultivation Pond Area at the Aquaculture Production Business Service Hall, Karawang Regency, West Java, Wednesday (08/05/2024) morning. The steps taken by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in modeling tilapia fish ponds have made it possible to show the production capacity of tilapia that can be produced from ponds built at the Aquaculture Production Business Service Center, Karawang Regency. This model is very important as an incubator for tilapia cultivation, from the current production of 0.6 tons per hectare, it can be increased to 80 tons per hectare and all prospective farmers can learn from pond modeling. What a brilliant initiative.
