❗️STRATEGIC CHANGE NEEDED IN EUROPEAN AQUACULTURE TO CONTRIBUTE TO EU AQUATIC FOOD SELF-SUFFICIENCY Read our latest FEAP Statement Last week, FEAP took part to a workshop on the future of aquaculture organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in collaboration with the Hungarian Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (#HUNATiP). We took this opportunity to: 📋 list the key differences between the aquaculture policies of the European Commission and those of international organisations, such as the FAO ☝️remind that sustainable #finfish farming is and will increasingly become a major source of sustainable food production on which our food security will rely. 🚨alert on the urgent need for a #CommonAquaculturePolicy and a European Aquaculture policy making taking into account all facets of the industry, from low to higher trophic levels. About us
FEAP is the Federation of European Aquaculture Producers. It groups Fish Farming Associations & is the leading consultative body for European interests. Amongst FEAP’s most important activities is its advisory role in providing positions, documentation and data on European aquaculture issues to the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as other aquaculture stakeholder organisations – this is done at both the European and global levels. FEAP is also active in both promoting and participating in research and support/coordination projects that contribute to innovation and development of the European fish farming sector. FEAP is also increasingly involved in sectoral actions and discussions on aquaculture as well as broader issues that affect the profession.

The organisation, which represents a wide range of entrepreneurs in the sector, stressed that ignoring this issue could jeopardise the supply and economic sustainability of aquaculture. FEAP emphasises that innovation and a balance between local production and environmental sustainability are fundamental in an approach that they argue is balanced and essential to guaranteeing food security in Europe. FEAP publicly expressed this position this month at a workshop on the future of aquaculture in Brussels. #Aquacultura #Sustentabilidade #PolíticasUE #EconomiaAzul #SegurançaAlimentar #Aquacultura

Last week, FEAP hosted its 6th online #SmartChat dedicated to the Impacts of #ClimateChange on #FishFarming, and the solutions that exist to help fish farmers prepare for warmer waters and increasing extreme climate events Our guest experts were Rita Lecci from CMCC Foundation - Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici and Elisabeth Ytteborg from Nofima. They shared their advice, recent results and tools that are already bringing significant support for the sector to adapt. While we are preparing the replay of this Smart Chat for all to learn from, have a look at this video report by Euronews #ClimateNow with Jeremy Wilks, following the impacts on fish farms in the Mediterranean with George Tsatsos, who explains some of the mitigation measures adopted by fish farmers to save their production. #FEAP is following this topic very closely, gathering and exchanging data, lessons and ideas across its network, while ensuring the right policies and research priorities are taken to provide efficient support to the sector. https://lnkd.in/ezNyHduw
