A week doesn't go by without another layoff announcement in public media. The reasons are always inherently local -- but there are broad themes that play out in all of them: * The ever-shrinking traditional public broadcasting audiences * A glut of digital content from all sorts of non-traditional creators * Overly ambitious growth plans triggered by the Trump Bump. In my latest column for Editor & Publisher (E&P) Magazine, I try to remind folks that cuts, however necessary, aren't a strategy -- and that years of hard work are ahead of us if we're to reinvent #publicmedia. https://lnkd.in/eAWtpMat

What has happened to all the producer jobs? I've not got any further insight, so it's a bit of an open question. Thankfully it seems like the industry is slowly ticking back to life with Talent Manager and Facebook picking up speed with the job postings, but, I've maybe seen one or two producer jobs. So what does this mean for producers like me? Do we need to take a step down and apply for AP gigs? It's not like I'll be handed a series producer job. Are teams moving forward to consist solely of APs and PDs? It leaves us floating in limbo. I get budgets are being stretched, and even more so now, but a producer on location supporting a director and focusing on editorial and story is an essential component that productions need. What does everyone think? #tvproduction #producers #tvjobs

Video campaigns that crush your marketing & sales goals. Ready to emotionally engage your audience? Let’s connect!
We recently had a client who wanted an employee to represent their company on camera, but their employees were terrified of being in the spotlight. 🤐 So how do you turn an introvert into a superstar? Here are three strategies we find really effective. 1: Use a teleprompter so there's no need to memorize the script 2: Tactfully interview the subject to organically lead them down your story points 3: Bring in a professional spokesperson to handle the hosting duties For all strategies, it's essential to make sure everyone is comfortable on set and understands the vision. An experienced director's job starts way before the day of production. With the right team, you can guide almost anyone into a confident presenter. For everything else, there's handsome spokesmodels. #videoproductiontips #digitalmarketing Edge of Cinema

👇🏼That part. The amount of times I had to literally make something out of nothing in mere seconds, all without breaking a sweat... in front of millions. And my mistakes? Well, those aired in front of millions, too. My time in television sharpened so many valuable skills that allow me to thrive both in life and in my new career now. Improvisation. Humility. Learning to fail gracefully. Conflict resolution. Critical thinking. Versatility. Creativity. Effective communication. Adaptability. Inquisitiveness. Intellectual curiosity. Situational awareness. Tenacity. Grit. The ability to overcome adversity. Receiving and responding to feedback and criticism with compassion. The list goes on and on. There is no better teacher than a newsroom. If you’re looking for candidates that will make good assets in quite literally any environment, someone with Television experience on their resume is an excellent place to start.

Companies, Why you should hire former journalists. (Disclaimer I’m fully employed with my dream marketing client and national TV work. But there are countless local journos who are currently underpaid and looking for that next challenge.) Here’s what they can bring to your organization. They understand urgency & deadlines They know how to cut through the noise They can create incredible video content for your company They know how to MULTI-TASK Case in point, this morning. I was working with a client in Nashville for a national media spot. This video shows me finishing makeup, talking to producers, and planning our shoot all at once. If you’re hiring… look at local newsrooms. There are some brilliant hard working people who can take your company or mission to the next level.
