We’ve had quite a few people come and go in our 3.5 years of being open, but TJ has been one of our leaders from day one. I think if you asked him he’d tell you the title “leader” may have been a bit of a stretch at the time, just as I would say the same for myself at that point. However, TJ always had the most important characteristic of becoming a great leader, the desire to relentlessly improve, and because of that mindset, we connected. Today is TJ’s last day with us as he pursues his dream of moving to NC and eventually opening his own coffee shop. I had to get a pic of us with the leadership book that I introduced to him and was the real catalyst for change not just for his leadership but mine as well. I’m very proud of him and his efforts to adopt the Extreme Ownership mentality, where success and failure equally lie with the decisions you make as a leader, and for that reason I know he is destined to accomplish great things in the next chapter of his journey. While I’m sad to see him go and had to fight back some tears, I had to thank him for giving me the confidence I could one day meet my goal of becoming an Operator and to help more grow; because without my experience and time working with him, I’m not sure I could confidently say that like I can today.
