We’re thrilled to share how Welling Salvation Army has transformed its food bank into a community pantry, a model that offers greater dignity and choice to low-income families and individuals. The community pantry, which operates on Fridays, has over 50 members. For just £5, members can select a mix of higher-priced items (like meat and dairy), lower-priced essentials (like fresh produce and toiletries), and free items (including books and clothes). In addition to this innovative pantry, the church now offers a hot meal every Friday in its newly renovated kitchen. Each week, around 15 people stay for lunch, enjoying not just the food but also the warmth of connection and community. This initiative is supported by Church Action on Poverty through its ‘Your Local Pantry’ program. As Ellie Malhotra from Church Action on Poverty said, “Pantries are fantastic places that bring people together around food in dignified ways. They’re real places of hope.” Let’s celebrate this inspiring work that goes beyond food to offer dignity, hope, and connection, https://brnw.ch/21wQaBt

June is National Hunger Awareness month, with "more than 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States who are struggling with hunger", according to SaveTheChildren.org. At Grocery Dealz, part of our Christian driven mission, is too help those struggling with hunger or food insecurity. Did you know that 17 million #OlderAdults face economic insecurity, and 14.2% live in poverty? With Americans living longer, too many are being left behind without the resources they need. Take Flora, for example. At 74, she relies on her #SocialSecurity check that doesn't go very far these days. With rising food prices, she struggled to afford nutritious meals while managing her diabetes. Thankfully, with the help of NCOA’s benefit counselors, Flora was enrolled in #SNAP. Now, she can buy healthy food and balance her budget—transforming her daily life! We’re on a mission to improve the lives of 40 million older adults by 2030, and we need your help! By supporting NCOA, you empower older adults like Flora, strengthen community organizations, and advocate for policies that support us all as we age. Together, we can create a future where everyone has the resources to #AgeWell. 💖 👉 Join us in building a better future! https://lnkd.in/eC3ffp2a

This past Tuesday was Hunger Action Day! CEO Scott Rumpsa joined The Morning Mix on Fox 17 to share how neighbors like you can help nourish our neighbors and build a stronger, healthier communtiy. Hunger doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Families who struggle to access the food they need often face other challenges, and a setback in one area creates a ripple effect across systems: education, childcare, employment, housing, healthcare, food, finances, and transportation. Complex problems require holistic solutions - that’s why we combine healthy food access, resource navigation, financial empowerment, and street outreach to build a community where all of our neighbors have what they need to thrive, and no one faces challenges alone. It takes a community, working together, to nourish our neighbors! Act with Action House by volunteering, hosting a drive, or donating to support our work! Today we’re highlighting our sponsor, the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. For over 30 years, they have provided food and other resources to people in need and have pursued areas of common interest for the benefit of people in need across the state. They represent the 12 Feeding America foodbanks and their 3,600 member hunger relief programs, serving Ohioans struggling with food security in all 88 counties. Since 2006, we have partnered to build the capacity of Ohio’s charitable hunger and poverty relief network. Last year, we had the opportunity to meet with our AmeriCorps VISTA members serving in central Ohio. From recruiting and managing volunteers, connecting communities with resources, like food and furniture, building programs, and creating sustainable solutions, our members stand with the Ohio Food Banks to address problems of poverty and inequity in local communities. Check out more in the video below and stay tuned as we share how organizations are disrupting the cycle of poverty! #PovertyAwarenessMonth #NationalPovertyAwarenessMonth #AmeriCorpsVISTA #AmeriCorps #Poverty #MakeADiffernce #Nonprofits #FoodBank #FoodSecurity

The Church is the answer. ✝️ The church has always been more than a place of worship; it’s a foundation for support, unity, and hope. As Matthew 5:14 reminds us, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”The church is called to be a light in its community, addressing both social and spiritual needs. In the face of the cost-of-living crisis, rising urban loneliness, isolation, and our current political landscape, the demand for church-led initiatives—such as food banks, homeless shelters, and skill-building programmes—has increased. Yet, spaces to support these essential services are dwindling. This is why the Social Impact Fund is so essential. We are working to create spaces that communities and congregations can depend on, establishing hubs for faith and social impact. Imagine a future where every town centre has a place of warmth, support, belonging, and community connection. #CommunitySupport #FaithInAction #SocialImpact #Church #SocialImpactFund #UrbanLoneliness #Isolation #TheChurch #CostOfLivingCrisis #LabourParty #CommunityImpact #Unity #Support #CommunityHubs

Beyond Sustenance: Meet Organic Soul In the bustling heart of our community, a group called Organic Soul thrives. A beacon of compassion and resilience. Their journey commenced with a resolute purpose: to harness their skills and bridge the gap for those facing food poverty. They support the homeless with hot meals, clothing, and sleeping bags – more than sustenance, it’s a lifeline. But their reach extends further. During periods of hardship, families receive weekly food hampers to help when people may need to choose between heating their home and feeding their family. Refugees and asylum seekers also find solace at Organic Soul. While they may grapple with isolation and uncertainty, they receive not only nourishment but also a sense of belonging. This is why donations and acts of kindness are so important. It’s as simple as attending a comedy night or maybe purchasing a tombola ticket. But, you help to sustain a network of communities with unique backgrounds and vibrant stories.
