🌊 The Herculean Effort to Boost American Shipbuilding 🚢 In a recent compelling episode of War on the Rocks' podcast "Congress at Sea," Sen. Mark Kelly from Arizona and Rep. Michael G. Waltz from Florida discuss their cross-party initiative to rejuvenate the U.S. shipbuilding industry and enhance our maritime strategy. This morning I started my team's weekly Leaders Huddle by listening. I asked the senior leadership in my organization to share the biggest lesson they learned from the tragic events of 9/11. Many shared about where they were when the events unfolded that day. Others were too young, so they shared about the memories that older relatives passed along to them. On the aggregate, the message was about coming together in the face of tragedy and repurposing the priorities in life. The sickening feeling of the gut-punch from that day must never be forgotten. I will honor the men and women that selflessly and bravely raced towards the disaster. The helpers. For me, September 11, 2001 set in motion my mission to be a 'helper' and empower each person I work with to be the best version of themself. There's many ways we can better support each other. Please help me learn from you. How did 9/11 change your trajectory? How do you make the many sacrifices from that day (and the years that followed) truly count? How can I help you? #leadershipcoaching #neverforget #businessandleadership
🇺🇸 Honoring the Memory of 9/11 Today, we solemnly remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As the U.S. Military Academy, we stand united in solemn reflection, paying tribute to the lives lost and the heroes who emerged from the ashes of that fateful day. On this anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of Duty, Honor, and Country. May we never forget the resilience and unity that arose from that dark moment in history, and may we honor the selfless sacrifices made by those who rushed into danger, embodying the true spirit of service to our nation. #NeverForget #Honor911 #DutyHonorCountry US Army | GoArmy

The poetic statement by Mr. Mercante can apply to many facets of existence. Not just to a ship that has lost its electrical power. The definitions of power and ships are subjective. Contextually, and perhaps historically, the are or can become metaphors for other things. From the article: “James Mercante, the president of the New York Board of Pilot Commissioners, told CBS News that a ship that has lost steering and power is essentially "a dead ship just being carried by the current or its own momentum."” A very visual invocation. It has been demonstrated that things (including ships) can be carried all over the planet by currents or a things’ own momentum (space-like; at least for a time until other forces overcome it). Critical infrastructure (including institutional ones) appear to share those traits…broadly applied. Interpretations, like both time and gravity are relative to the observer and depend on the observer’s own actual experiences (real-world observations, not mathematical games). The namesake of the bridge may have appreciated that the bridge may be down, but the flag is still there! Perspective: some people enjoy the demolition because it paves the way for the new. Billy Joel: “the good old days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.”
