A striking image shows a pair of Bulgarian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jets flying alongside a Hellenic Air Force F-16 aircraft. This visual juxtaposition highlights Bulgaria's ongoing efforts to modernize its air force and replace its aging MiG-29 fleet. To that end, Bulgaria has placed an order for brand-new F-16V fighter jets to succeed its current MiG-29 inventory. The F-16V, an advanced variant of the venerable F-16 Fighting Falcon, will provide Bulgaria with a significant boost in capabilities and interoperability with NATO allies. However, the delivery of these new F-16Vs has been delayed until 2026 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global health crisis has disrupted supply chains and production timelines, pushing back the anticipated arrival of Bulgaria's next-generation fighter jets.Despite this temporary setback, Bulgaria remains committed to modernizing its air force and enhancing its defensive posture. The transition from the Soviet-era MiG-29s to the cutting-edge F-16Vs will equip the Bulgarian military with a more capable, versatile, and NATO-compatible air power platform. #military #defense #defence #aerospace #aviation #aircraft #aircrafts #airplane #airplanes #aviationlovers #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #fighterjet #engineering #technology #militarytechnology #defensetechnology #defenseinnovation #defenseindustry #airforce #bulgaria #greece #airpower
First version of the MiG-29 9-12, extraordinary in aerodynamics, but some logistical and operational limitations that the following versions overcame.
Just re-emphasising what other commenters have pointed out: technically speaking the Mig-29 was first flown and introduced later than the F-16 by several years. The difference is, of course, which platform continued to receives updates and modernisation. And the F-16 (in)arguably was such a great design for a 4th generation fighter that it can still hold up in a 5th gen environment (not least because you can roll out more 4th than 5th gen due to sheer costs)
As F-16V arrive, the MIG-29 should be sent to Ukraine. They are already trained to pilot those aircraft and could immediately be in action.
The F16 is an amazing platform, but I wouldn't call it cutting-edge. At this point, I'd recommend canceling the F16 order and getting the 5th gen F35.
Give it to Ukrainian Air Force.
Love this!
